I mentioned in another thread that I purchased a 180D recently (originally thought it was an 1802D).

With the research I have done thus far I understand that a YM with 4 digits (ie: YM1802D) is a grey market tractor and the YM with 3 digits (ie: YM180D) is a tractor built for US sales. So it would appear that the YM180D I purchased is a US market tractor, the engine increases in RPM when the throttle lever is pushed whereas I understand many, if not all, grey market tractors increase in revs when the throttle lever is pulled.

Even though this tractor would appear to be for the US market, it does not have a ROPS (one of the other potential indicators of grey market).

I have put in a request to Hercules regarding a ROPS, because I want to have one since I will be mowing on relatively steep grades. They don't list a 180D (they mainly list the grey market numbers) and want me to provide pics and measurements but since I am out of the country for awhile I was wondering if anyone here knew if a YM 1802 or some other tractor's ROPS would fit.

TIA

Is that "grey" or "gray"?

Contact one of the Yanmar dealers who participate on this forum and ask. Strangely, there are more grey market tractors here than ones made for the US market. However, it is possible that your tractor is similar enough to a grey that the ROPS would work. A dealer may be reluctant to sell you one though if it wasn't designed specifically for your tractor. Good luck!

As far as I know "grey" and "gray" are both acceptable spellings.:)

Yes you are correct, seems like most of the tractors here are "grey" market.

My US 186D didn't have a ROPS on it either. You'll need to figure out which grey market tractor is the equivalent to yours. Mine was the 1510D, and there was a folding ROPS available for the 1510. It would have been a bolt on operation, HOWEVER, you may find that dealers may not want to sell you a grey market ROPS for your US tractor even though it will bolt on because it is not tested and certified for a US tractor. That wouldn't stop me from bolting a ROPS certified for grey tractors, on my tractor though. Obviously the tractors will weigh about the same, and there is no logical reason the ROPS will not work the same on a US equivalent tractor...... the certification is a legal issue. If you took some pics of the rear of your tractor, we can probably figure out which grey is the same.
