YM1700BD 4WD Problem

Is the drive shaft hollow or solid? Was that groove cut with the round spring keeper and is that where you are talking about welding?

I wouldn't think welding could hurt anything. Might weld a little on one side, then the other so as not to put a bend in it. This is just an opinion, not the rule.

I'm pretty sure that it is solid. I think someone run it in 4wd thus turning the shaft sitting in the washer that sets against the spring thus wearing a groove

You did good, a gamble that paid off well!

I'm pretty sure the headlight wraparound from YM1700 (or YM195) will fit YM1700BD. From memory, I think YM2000 was larger and won't fit.

But don't rely on this, buy only something that is returnable! It may take a couple of tries to get it right.

Hoye shows the same grille fits YM1700 and YM2000 . New is $100.00 plus shipping. I'll have to think about that.

call Hoye see if they have a used grill out back. They usually sell used parts for 50% of what they list a new one at.

You're right, and I was mistaken in my post above. I wonder now if what I mis-remembered was that YM1500 has a similar but narrower hood.

Also, looking at that Fredricks page I see the plastic upper headlight grille I need for my second YM186D, the one with a loader, at a reasonable price. I should buy one and start cleaning up this tractor, it deserves it.
