Tractor started fine last fall. Tried it yesterday turns over very slowly and would not start. I charged the battery and same results. Has a TS switch and decompression lever but I don't know how to use them. Please help

If it all works correctly. Pull out on the decompression lever. Turn the ign. switch ( if fuel is in the small container under the hood) to ts for a few min. This heats a small amount of that fuel ( in that container) into the chamber for faster/ easier cranking.

So the engine should start with the decomp lever pulled. Is that right?

Well, It should start with out it pulled. This just helps sometimes. Mostly this stuff is used for winter hard starts. How is you'er fuel, filter, compression, etc, ?? I have never had to use this stuff to start my tractor even in cold weather

I would have the battery checked if it turns over slow after charging. Could have a bad cell. Most auto parts stores will check for free

The fuel is fresh, filter is new, with the decomp pulled starter spins pretty fast, with the decomp in starter turns very slow and quits within 10 seconds or so. Think it could be a problem with the starter?

Still could be a bad / weak batt. With decompression lever pulled , the starter / batt doesn't have to work as hard.. Did you bleed the fuel system when you replaced the filter ?

Well, not with it pulled or turned. On the 1700 I had, the decompression lever turned, I think to the left. That releases the compression so the engine will turn over quicker/easier. Also allows some fuel to be pumped in at higher revs and oil pressure to build up. The TS works good if all of it is in working order. There should be a small white container under the hood. Fill it with diesel. Turn the key to TS and an element in the intake will heat up. Fuel from your little white bottle will drip onto the element. You might actually see a flame if you take the air filter off and look down in the intake. It heats the air that goes into the engine.

Thanks for the info, my decomp lever does turn clockwise to drop the compression. I have never been able to start the engine that way. I have not found good manuals that tell all this. I am happy to find a site where I can get some help. Thanks again
