I have a YM165D. I am working on the tractor to see if the engine starts since it has been sitting for 5+years. It has a hydraulic pump attached to the front bumper that runs the front end loader. How to remove? The reason I think I should take it off is so the hyd pump doesn't turn without any fluid in it. It has a chain attachment on the shaft and I can't figure out how to remove this.

If by "chain" you mean a double row roller chain, it is probably used to connect a sprocket on the crankshaft to a matching sprocket on the pump. If so it will have a master link like any roller chain. Just locate it, knock off the link connector from one side and push that link out. The master will look different than all the others from one side only. you should see a slot in the connector, just push, actually tap with a punch and hammer to move the link along the slot until it loosens.
