YM1300 upper lift arm

I have a YM1300. The upper lift arm on the left (clutch) side just broke off! Broke in half. Didn't have any load on it either. I just ordered a set of lower arms from Ernie's to help with the width issues. But my question is this. On the YM1300, it seems that the upper lift arms were mainly designed to lift the tiller and it had a 3 point conversion put on to use other Cat1 items. Since I am using it to lift a 48" king kutter brush hog and box blade, am I overloading the factory arms? Will I continue to have issues such as this? At $85 ea this will get to be an expensive fix each time it breaks. My initial thoughts were to have a machine shop fabricate new ones from plate steel?
I'd love to get your input or comments on this or similar experience.

This is not a common problem. I sell very few upper lift arms. Never sold one for a YM1300.

If the three-point conversion isn't just right, it could be binding up. Check the upside down "U" shaped pieces that fit over the lower arms to make sure they do not bind at the lower arms when lifted all the way up, also check to make sure the check-chains don't bind when lifted up high.

I've only seen them break in situations like that.

Ernie's sets are built right and won't bind.

Thanks Dave, The new arms should be here tomorrow and installed this weekend. The replacement upper arm is being installed by the dealer I purchased it from and will be completed tomorrow. I won't even bother with hooking up the factory units. Hopefully this will be the end of this issue ! I only wish I wouldn't have already trimmed the PTO shaft for the bush hog. The new arms will most likely mean a longer PTO shaft. Oh well, live and learn.
