YM1300 Oil Pressure

I just finished installing the sun pro 1 1/2" gauge kit and now I'm wondering about the operating oil pressure. Can anyone tell me what I should be expecting? When the engine is first started I'm running around 24-26psi, but after it is up to running temperature and at running speed for mowing, it drops to around 18psi? I am running full synthetic shell Rotella 5w40 oil. Should I be running a non multi weight? Is there something else going on ? or what?..... Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I would go to a Rotella 15W-40 or heavier.

18 psi should be more than sufficient oil pressure. Normally, oil pressure will drop much lower at idle when the engine is hot. For reference, I think the oil pressure switch is supposed to turn the light on under 3 psi.

However, I have to agree with the above post - get to WalMart and buy some Shell Rotella T 15W40. You need to be running an oil made specifically for diesel applications.

Thanks for the replies... While the Oil I'm using did state it was for Diesel engines, I was not too sure about the weight. I will stop today and buy a heavier oil.

Ha! that's nothing. You 'new' tractor owners are spoinled.

Collect some real old iron from the 30's and 40's and 50's...

I have a 46 2N that starts with 18 psi COLD.. and then drops to 10 hot idle..

I know people that have N's that start cold with 10 and have 5 or so showing on the gauge.. and have been that way for 10 years... /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Funny thing about oil pressure, if it is truly low and not just a faulty gauge, the "fix" is normally a complete overhaul, (all new bearings), as opposed to a new oil pump.
