YM 1820 Mystery electrical box

Ign. pretty simple if Correct in Org. condition. Sounds a little more mousey to me.
Original starter connection had been disconneced & a jumper pair connected from the + terminal & solenoid & left loose under the bonnet. Touching the two ends together started her up. .

The search on the YTOG doesn't return any file found for that & I couldn't find it in the Resources section either - any direct link available? TIA
You must be login to the site to get to anything. Most people forget to do this when searching.
When on the site, it's located in the WIKI > RESOURCE PAGE > manuals.
Manuals are also found on the other TractorForum too.

Right - I've proved all the wiring on the tractor - all works as it should except for the starter which still works fine with the separate push button. So to keep this thread somewhat relevant to the title(!) I'll start a new thread.

My guess he's just jumping the bad starter solenoid could be just a bad connection?

It's strange:all connections are clean & freshly greased with dielectric grease. Solenoid works perfectly when supplied from its battery terminal. (The main solenoid terminals are not being jumped -just 12v applied to the small terminal & all is OK)

Turn the switch on Chk. That you are getting 12V. to the starter solenoid. If you are and you turn the key in the start Pos. and it Does not start. Use a screw driver and jump the + and Neg. poles on back of the solenoid together. My guess it starts? If it does is normal for a bad Starter Solenoid. I hate Elec. on here when there is so many variables involved. I had to rebuid my starter which they replaced Solenoid that I think was actually still working. Make sure the Tractor is in Neutral or Park It will take off if not!!

What type of starter is on the machine? Standard old school solenoid type or the modern OSGR type? The solenoid type can be flawed making you think it's working. Yet, it has not guts and no glory to turn much of anything over.

I'm showing a SM-146 12-V15 tooth.
The YM1820 should be a SM-1277 12V-15 tooth. YM1800-1820, YMG2000-YM3810 FX26-42.

Yes - it's a timer for the Thermostart circuit. When you switch on the TS, this box lights a small red lamp below the ignition switch. Hold key in TS position & this light goes out after about 20 seconds. Not needed functionally: it just supplies the warning light as far as I can see, the thermostart works fine without it.
Three wires - black is earth, red is feed & yellow to the idiot light. It confused me originally because on the 1820 wiring diagram the unit is shown with 5 wires, leading me to believe it might be some sort of logic device for various safety circuits. Later e.g 2420 wiring diagrams show the 3 wire unit that mine has. Winston had it right from a post back in 2012
