Fortunately it is stuck in th 540 rpm range but, I cannot shift it into neutral. Everything seems to work Ok ecept for that. When I depress the clutch the pto does top turning. I wonder if something has vibrated loose. I noticed that the clutch pedal has linkage attached to a lever on the side of the PTO as well. I do not see anything moving when I press the clutch. It seem that it should move the lever on the PTO. I have a service manual for a YM195 but, It is not clear enough to tell if it is connected correctly or if something has just vibrated out of adjustment. Does anyone have any ideas or could someone post a photo of their setup.

Fortunately, I can still use the tractor I just have to be careful. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Any input would be appreciated.

If you're talking about the PTO lever that puts in either of 3 speeds, My 1700 does not move the lever when the clutch is depressed. That's the only input I have. Maybe someone that's been into the rear end can help.

Something just struck me about your post when you said your 1700 had a linkage from the clutch to the PTO lever so I went out and looked at mine. It has no such linkage the picture attatched is of the PTO lever which shows no linkage.

Here's a picture of the clutch petal and the linkage goes to the lever just in front of the petal.

I don't have a picture showing it but, attached to the clutch linkage is a linkage that comes under the foot rest and has linkage similar to the clutch going to a lever on the left side of the PTO housing. I assume that it is what disengages the PTO.

The pto lever should shift from 1st, to neutral, to 2nd, to 3rd, when moving the lever. If you are saying the lever is stuck, It must be either the shaft frozen where it enters the case, or something jammed inside. Time to troubleshoot.

1) Can you post a photo illustrating this?

2) Do you have a pto shift lever next to your left ankle, with a linkage back to where the pto shifter sticks out of the transmission case?

What you are describing sounds like an aftermarket substitute for an overrun clutch, that shifts the pto to neutral when the clutch is pushed.

Same thing I was thinking... It shifts the pto out every time you clutch... Boy.. I'd sure rather just have an ORC.. less wear on the detent..

1) I will try to get a picture. It is just dark when I get home every day. Maybe I can get a pic in the morning before work.

2) Yes there is a PTO shift lever It has 3 postions plus nuetral. That is the lever that is stuck. At least it is stuck in the 540 speed.

3) I do have an overrun clutch. It just attaches to the the PTO shaft

Try rocking hte tractor back and forth.. in neutral, but with pto engaged.. and try to work that lever. The range selector for the pto on my 1700 was fiercly stuck in the 540 section when i got it.. I rocked the tractor back and forth and a frined tugged on the lever and it freed up after that... Or you could just leave it in 540 and not worry about it.

I had another thought about your clutch linkage.. perhaps the pto detent is worn out.. and that is te method the rpev owner chose to use to keep the pto engaged? Rather than a clutch-disconnect idea.. etc.
