I think the main reason why you don't see any competition to Kubota is largely because of the popularity of mini-excavators. It's pretty hard to compete with an excavator even in regular excavation work the only time I see a regular TLB like a Case 580 or John Deere 310 is during any utility installation work like fiberoptic, power, or gas. As an operator of over 20 years I find TLB's to be quite frustrating to use for things like digging footings, basements, and sewer and water work.

The neighbor had 2 different buckets that he easily swapped as needed. Yes, the machine is much larger than a tiny excavator, but getting the job done in record time is hard to beat. Over at Lowes last year, I've seen these small excavators doing utility work out front at the side entrance. Boy are they slooooow machines.
