Great details on the rebuild that they go thru.

Your 2014 price for the sweet YM2610 is envious form todays inflation increased prices.

Thanks

One thing I will caution anyone about when crossing the Mack is don't drive your tractor in the fast lane as the bridge deck is expanded metal and you can look right through it to the water, hundreds of feet below and if heights makes you squeamish, I guarantee you'll puke. Slow lane is solid steel. Found that out the hard way. I've crossed it many, many times in my car and truck and never paid any attention until I crossed it on my motorcycle and had to stop midway across due to an accident and I was sitting there and looked down, big mistake, lost my burger I ate in Mackinaw City along with everything else.

Great post with caution from your experience while riding a motorcycle on the bridge. I think the tractors crossing use the solid lane and not the grate side. I have driven across it in cars and trucks (in both lanes) and never thought much about it (except recalling each time as I cross the two vehicles that went over the bridge railing. 1989 a Yugo compact car and in 1997 a Ford Bronco).

It is a great view being that high above the water. I was thinking I should someday take my motorcycle across but was wondering if on the expanded metal lane if it would bother me. Your having to stop on the bridge would make it even worse. I likely would have the same issue. I am a little uneasy/cautious at very high heights which seems funny being a pilot and never being affected by altitudes when flying in the clear and in the clouds. I have flown across the bridge a few times with no grate under me and had no concerns.

Three years back I was crossing in late December when the winds were (from memory 35 mph gusting to 45) and the Bridge Authority reduced the crossing speeds from normal 45 mph to 20 for cars and pickups not towing trailers. All High profile vehicles and those with trailers had to be escorted in groups.

Did your lost hamburger go thru the grating and into the water. :ROFLMAO:

Thanks

I've done the Labor Day Mackinac Bridge Run before. So try this on foot. ;)

The run is on September 2nd this year. Imagine hundreds of people pounding their feet and the bridge swaying and going clang clang clang loudly that you can't even think! :ROFLMAO: Then look down ! o_O

yes, it did along with my beverage and everything else as well. Glad there wasn't a Laker passing underneath as I would have 'deposited' my lunch on it....

Least I had sense enough to lean over so I didn't get any of it on my riding suit. Of course the driver in the right lane got a show.... I think at least. Needless to say I hit the rest area on the north side and blew my nose and had a long drink of water I had in my backpack. I've ridden all over and primitive camped the UP with my KLR 650 ADV bike. In the lower as well but the upper is much nicer as in less people.

Never experienced any sway when I've rode across it in my car, bike or big truck (I used to deliver building supplies for the State of Michigan to both prisons). Nice to load and unload. I got loaded by inmates down here and unloaded by inmates up there. All I had to do was secure the loads and even then, once the guards got to know me, they would even help out. Only thing was I had to stay in the cab when getting loaded and unloaded and submit to a body frisk at both ends. I was always supplied with both food and drinks too. State loads pay exceptionally well also and if I was loaded over gross and got stopped at any scale, all I had to do was show them my State bills of lading and off I went. Very seamless loads and I took my wife with me many times as well.

Running the bridge is quite a "Bucket List" accomplishment. That must have been a great experience and I envy that. My best running days are in the past and I now try to use a 3+ MPH walk pace including grades.

The runners start before the walkers as I recall. The Labor Day Bridge Walk/Run is something I would like to do as well. Looking down would be an interesting experience especially if on the grating side. I was was boosting my every other day walking with 30 percent of it being grades to 6 miles until a foot injury halted my progress so a bridge walk will be a no go this year.

Best regards

Steel Mesh bridge deck on a rainy day was the only time I came very close to loosing the bike... certainly proceed with utmost caution when I would make a parts run to the island of Alameda CA

(hope I do not offend any one with my following boyish thoughts below 🤣)

Your dumping the consumed hamburger with drink over the bridge is an experience most will never have the honor of completing. Glad the riding suit stayed clean and you had the courtesy to pick a time when no "Lakers" were under the bridge.

The KRL 650 is a great adventure bike for traveling on highways and then some off-highway adventures.

My simple country boy thought only was to take a leak over the guardrail or at least spit into the water and watch it splash. Likely too far to see the splash anyways. A violation of some law in todays world as well. If I do not get ill maybe I can spill my water jug for the experience 🫢.

On the farm we just went to the other side of the tractor or in the woods if we were in a group. Simple. Sadly now one of my once remote NE Tennessee properties is now getting populated. 15 years ago just had to be aware of the animals. Now there are families out walking looking at nature near the lake. Guess I will have to move further out and put no trespassing signs out.

Time changes most things.
