I have a chance to purchase a Yanmar 3000 (Greymarket rebuilt) or Jinma 284 (New). All opinions about these two machines are eagerly sought. Both are 4WD, Diesel with FEL and other attachments, including small backhoe. Assuming all attachments are the same for both units, which would be best for a 5 acre residence and some light commercial use. Which deal should be cheaper than the other. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif PLEASE ANSWER WITH FACTUAL REASONS----NOT OPINIONS----I COULD NOT AFFORD THIS PACKAGE IN A DEERE, KUBOTA, ETC.

If you buy a grey market tractor, then Yanmar is the brand to buy. But be careful who you buy a grey market tractor from. There are ebay sellers claiming to sell rebuilt grey market tractors with very low hours, I consider most of them to be liars. There are also very high quality dealers who sell grey market tractors and have parts and service to back up those tractors. Look to Wayne at LMTC (highly recommended0 or TractorErnie if you want a grey market tractor.

Realize that Yanmar has a long relationship with John Deere, and while the Yanmar tractors are NOT the same as John Deere tractors, you can bet that the quality of the Yanmar is top knotch. In fact Yanmar virutally dominates the small diesel marine engine industry and is well established in the small diesel tractor and small construction equipment engines and equipment. Yanmar USA will not support a grey market tractor, but you will find that there is a good supply of parts from the Yanmar grey market import companies. Personally I would consider a good used Yanmar from a quality dealer to be a good tractor. You are getting a used tractor when you buy a Yanmar, but you are getting a very high quality used tractor.

I am not a fan of the Jinma tractors.

Hi Bob,
Thanks for the post. The dealer(?) I'm using is located in N. Carolina and is the closest to me that I can find. I'm about 35 N. of Phila. Pa. Can you tell me where these other dealers are located and give me their phone or website or some way to contact them. I feel pretty certain the guy I have been working with is doing these deals "on the side", and I don't expect him to be there for me in the future. I know once I buy it I'll be on my own, but that's OK.

I agree with Bob.. if i went grey market.. it would be yanmar. Hit the yanmar sub here.. there are a couple dealers.. they will give you straight advice. Choose a unit with good parts support too.

No.. the flip side. A new jinma.. is.. well.. knew.. probbaly better parts support.. and some kind of warranty.

I know you can't afford in a big '3' name brand.. but have yo looke dat other more economy brands.. mahindra, kioti, branson, zetor , tafe.. etc.

Another option is a used but well cared for mid to late domestic model.

good luck

As Chris (Soundguy) suggests, scroll down to the Yanmar/Grey Market forums. There are some dealers who participate in those forums and they will give you straight advice. I personally will vouch for Wayne at Little Miami Trading Company, he posts under the screen name LMTC. You can post some questions in the Yanmar/Grey Market area and you will find out the good and bad of any model, including the straight story about some of the refurbished equipment that is being sold.

You can also send Wayne a private message via TBN or you can look up his website. http://www.lmtcompany.com/

I have a Jinma 284 I bought new a couple monts ago, Flip the rims out to the widest setting and I think they are as good or better than any other tractor for the price.

I would be leary of that particular one because I don't think 4wd's were available in 3000's.
Correct me if I'm wrong guys.

I echo the fact of dealing with Wayne.

I have dealt with greys off and on for 6yrs and have never had any issues, that you won't run into on any other tractor.
At one time we thought about taking on the Jinma's.
I talked to a fellow dealer that sold both and asked him to tell me which he had to do more work to after the sale,a grey Yanmar or a new Jinma.
He said hands down the Jinmas.

I have a 25 year old Yanmar I bought 2.5 years ago. Absolutely no problems, aside from those created by the previous owner and me: I discovered that loose bolts on the loader were most of the racket it made, I killed the voltage regulator using my pressure washer, etc. None of this reflected on the inherent quality of the unit, even after 25 years of abuse.

I would choose a never-restored Yanmar over a Jinma at identical price levels.
