Yanmar Tractors

"Yanmar is one of the few compact tractor companies that designs and manufactures all of its own components and parts."
It’s my understanding that Kubota and Yanmar are the only two companies building their tractors using all their own components.

That’s why I like Yanmar.

I'm not certain about this so please don't quote me, I think Iseki (MF - SCUT, CUT) may be another one. Any Iseki guys know if this is the case? I put the Yanmar, Kubota and Iseki all in the same class. May just be in my head but this is my current view of tractors. Some JD models are essentially Yanmars, so if you look at it that way JD makes my top 3 also.

I would add that Kubota and Yanmar are the only two manufacturers who build their own tractors and components, including the engines, UNDER THEIR OWN NAMES. No trade names or other obfuscations masking what’s what.

Iseki may indeed build the entire tractor, in particular after their recent switch back to Iseki engines, but they do it under the AGCO Massey Ferguson trade name.

All three, Kubota, Yanmar, and Iseki are excellent Japanese manufacturers and I wouldn’t hesitate to buy any of them.

That's not surprising, I read that Yanmar was pushing their own brand harder in the U.S. I think that they are worthy competitors to Kubota, JD and Massey.

I'm a little surprised that more JD guys aren't flipping to Yanmar since Yanmar builds some of their tractors and most of their SCUT/CUT engines anyways. The savings and performance differences in an apples to apples comparison is pretty significant.

I get it that the dealer network is a bit scarce so hopefully Yanmar can change that in the coming years.
That's because JD people are die hard JD people. They won't buy anything that isn't green and yellow and says JD on it.
Look at even the antique tractor auctions. The JD's always sell double the price of all other colours, even when the other brands have better models in a specific category.

I would never drive 200 miles to a dealer for anything. I've owned 3 different makes of tractors over 25 yrs and I've yet to have a bad one. GL with the Yanmar, I'm sure they make a good one too.

I would agree with your observation, a lot of confirmation bias and normalcy bias going on in the sales of the john deeres.

I have borrowed (oh no, I said borrowed) a friends 47 horsepower Yanmar to disc and plow. After using it, I put Yanmar at the top of my list for a replacement tractor if ever needed.

As rock solid as the old ones are the new ones are worth a shot. After my experience with the 2420D I may have ended up with one instead of the tym if the dealer had more than a little 24hp units in stock

Secondary experience is the yanmar engine in my skid steer. 30+ years old, 4th Hobbs meter quit a long time ago and still even after sitting for months I can walk out, turn the key and it fires right up. I figure my grandkids will use the thing at this rate....

I think the one thing that is missing is marketing. When is the last time you saw a Yanmar commercial?
Marketing is a problem along with some other issues. I was actually looking at them real serious a while back but when I spoke to the dealers what I found out is Yanmar didn't hold up their end of the agreement when it came to taking care of their dealers. A lot of dealers were left with absolutely no inventory to sell and couldn't get parts for the tractors they did sell. The dealers also reported issues with the dealer rep.

Yanmar’s marketing on YouTube has improved a lot.

Who watches TV anymore? Much less commercials on TV. It’s a dying form of media just like radio.

Don’t know about Yanmar not taking care of it’s dealers. Supply chain issues affected the entire economy in recent years.
