But does anyone know of any other models of starter that will work for yanmar engines? (specifically Yanmar 3T75U). I'm seeing results from amazon, ebay, and autozone but am unsure about getting a generic without knowing it'll fit/work.

Thanks in advance.

That Motor is repairable from what I'm showing SM-235. I Repaired/Rebuilt mine 10yrs. at 73.00$. Check with a Starter-alternator shop or a Auto Elec. shop. Just don't say Yanmar! Just give them your #....yanmar starter motor SM-235 - Bing - Shopping

You have narrowed your problem to the starter. What on the starter isn't working? They needn't always be replaced. It may be repairable. A shop which deals in automotive starters can probably fix it if your can't. If they can't fix it they can probably suggest a less expensive alternative to what you found. I say that from experience with my old Mitsubishi. Yanmar didn't MAKE the starter, they bought it somewhere.

I always go on E-Bay for starters. Even if you don't buy it there, it gives you a really good range of prices. You see the good prices and the gouging prices too.

Check out DB Electrical - You may have to do some cross referencing, but I got a starter for my Mitsubishi D1850 FD for less than $100

Hoye will sell you a high quality starter and stand behind it.

Of course there are cheaper ones available, but you get what you pay for.

Like the others said, a rebuilder will more than likely fix it reasonably.

If they try to play a game with you just tell them it's for an old tractor, may not be worth fixing. Will probably check with acme down the road or end up scrapping it.

I have little confidence in any repair shop being able to repair anything as good as new anymore. I also have little doubt that many more expensive outfits are buying the cheap stuff that anyone has access to and just marking it up.

SMH. I was even busted by this Shop of being into this motor. Turned the brushes around a yr. or so before having to get it rebuilt. They commented on it!! Actually gave me a thumbs up on how I done it. When I was paying for it stated I got all I could out of that motor. Hasn't been 10yrs, but it's still on there and working so Hey!! I know they had to replace the Brushes LOL. and a new Solenoid. Even at this many yrs. I've seen and had new starters from the El cheapo auto parts that hasn't lasted that long. NAPA. for me from experience over the Yrs.. I keep all Receipts also may need them.

I bought my Yanmar starter for the YM2610 / JD850 from AMAZON for a mere $99 and no core needed. It was an upgraded one too. 100% fit and no more solenoid!!!! It is the Offset Gear Reduction (modern) starters and 2.0kW power vs. the solenoid type at 1.5kW starting power.

Even in the cold winters, this start can crank to fire up the diesel that's been sitting. No more slow starting in the winter.

Yep, most small towns have a starter/alternator rebuild shop. $100 is the standard price for a either one needing basic work. About twice that for a starter if it also needs bearings/solenoid&bendix. Same for alternators except replace solenoid+bendix with diodes+VR.

It's one of those areas where a rebuilt is basically good as new. At my mechanical repair shop, rebuilding generators/alternators/starters was basically good beer money.... something sought after by mechanics as a time-filler. It's never difficult or time consuming & new ones are so outrageously priced that you can make money on rebuilt ones. Plus the older frames are mostly more ruggedly made than the newer replacements. Old ones were made to be rebuilt indefinitely.
