Yanmar loses power, slows down & kills

/ Yanmar loses power, slows down & kills #111
I know what a nice day it was, I'm just across the lake. Now if it will just stop raining for a few days my place can start drying up. Today was the first day I was able to walk around without having to wear rubber boots. Its hard to believe we were on the verge of a drought a few months ago. I sure hope you are about to get this resolved.

You cannot go wrong in my opinion buy rebuilding the pump. Wither its the problem or not these tractors are old and rebuilding the pump will make tractor run better, in my opinion.

I still think its a govenor problem.

I don't know how the governor could make it get air in the fuel line.

Tally,
I would think that , if it were the pump causing air in the lines . the pump test would have shown it. While it's running , if you loosen one (at a time) of the injector lines . Does the air bubbles go away ?? Have you tried this ?

I think they just checked the pump to make sure it was pumping ok. But the pump is at the rebuilders now and in a few days I will know if it was the pump or not.

Each of these plungers must have seals that can go bad and let air in.

The seal is a metal to metal machine fit on top of the plumger barrell. It's usually a matched piece (plunger, barrel, etc). There is a stiff spring holding it down. You can see it if you tap off the top piece where the injector line attaches. Only about 3 parts in there, not much to lose. Even these little pumps have all the safeguards. reverse flow preventor, suck back function, a dump valve, etc. So getting pressure back from the injector would be unlikely IMO (but maybe not impossible...just in case :D). To test this run it on 2 cylinders for a while, run the spurting fuel into a can or something. Shouldn't take long after it's warmed up. To bad there is no one close with a like tractor to swap out the pumps for a test. Who'll step up?? Anyone?? :D

Hopefully you get it fixed soon but my uncle lives in Kenner, I don't think you are to far from there. To bad you are not closer to Lake Charles, I'll be there tomorrow. :)

First you have to know how the gov works then you have to know the what happens when the gov activates.

1) what happens when the gov activates
2) will a vacuum occur? Is what you are seeing air or vacuum???
3) in other words does the line have a bubble or vacuum?

Still I hope rebuilding the pump fixes the problem. But I have to ask myself what happens when engine tries to add fuel and gov limits fuel?

Oh, it's definitely air in the line and not vacuum. As seen in the photo on my post #105. If it were vacuum, it would just suck fuel out of my tank to fill the vacuum. Air keeps the fuel from flowing into the line.

I'll know for sure if it was my pump when I get in back in a couple of days. I tried my best to eliminate every other possibility before I spent money on getting the pump rebuilt. The TBN members have done an excellent job on giving me possible causes and ideas as how to fix it and when I get it fixed I think I'll throw a big "ebarbque" and invite everyone to join me on their computers and eat "eribs" and drink "ebeer".:D :D
