yanmar fx28d
hi everyone im new to the board and to tractors, my grandpa passed away and now im haveing to learn REALLY fast how to operate and take care of this thing so my most recent problem is that when im running the tractor hard for a while it just shuts off with no warning and after it cools it will start back up or if you pop it off with ether ( i know this is a bad idea, i had no choice) its not running hot and has plenty of fuel. also what does the panel on the right fender do other than change the angle of the blade? the tractor is a FX28d

You probably have a clogged fuel filter. Yanmar Tractor Fuel Bleeding Procedure

There should be a small jar-looking fuel filter assembly on your tractor. Apparently there may be two different sized filters, according to Hoye. On most of the other Yanmars, the fuel filter is readily available at Napa or equivalent auto parts stores. I don't know about the larger size your FX28 may have. If you remove it and take it to a good parts store, they may be able to match it. On all of mine, the clear bell is threaded, and a top cap screws onto it. Unscrew the cap, remove the bell, and make sure to not lose any springs or shims or anything else. Replace the fuel filter, bleed from the filter to the pump (The two Phillips-adapted hex headed bolts on the filter assembly for all my Yanmars, then an identical one above the fuel line inlet on the injection pump) and you should be able to get the machine to start and run indefinitely. Stop using ether. You know it's bad, but it WILL break the tractor. Good luck, and welcome to the forum.

Hello JVhateaway1 and welcome, It does sound like a fuel delivery issue just as 284 and winston1 has suggest, You stated after "running it for a while" assuming run long enough that it would rule out fuel system needing bled out? You also stated full of fuel, do you know if it had ran out anytime before filling?

Didn't we decide recently a FX pump was solenoid operated? I know there was a thread on a similar engine and I remember it because I mentioned there possibly being a small transfer pump or fuel heater on the side of the pump (lines go to it on outside of pump) and that even possibly being a secondary filter? I agree on it being a plugged filter btw.

The guy said what it was that got it going I am pretty sure but cant remember what it was maybe you guys will and I may be clear out in left field as well. :D It was a bad connection or something heck if I can remember now.

as far as i know it was never ran out of fuel and it will run for well over an hour at low RPM it only dies when i put it under a good load for a good bit of time, im going to try and find a fuel filter today and as far as the pump i have no clue ill have to take a look at it when i get out to the shed, i dont remember seeing one i honestly thought it was gravity fed.

Dirty fuel filter or clogged fuel line..:welcome:

On the F series tractors the round thing at the bottom of the picture under the injection pump is the fuel pump and therefore it looks as though on the F 2 digit tractors the filter is between the fuel pump and the injection pump (ie fuel is pumped through the filter).
I have an F215 which has the fuel pump just like your FX28 but it pumps directly to the injection pump ie the filter is between the tank and the fuel pump and is therefore only gravity fed.
F series tractors definitely have an electric fuel cut off solenoid as they switch off with the key.

ok so i just went to take a look at it and there is a pump but it has been bypassed im guessing it quit working so im betting that could be my issue so now i need to know can i replace that pump with a low pressure inline electric pump?
