Good morning (evening) everybody,

The tachometer of my Yanmar AF22 stopped working suddenly when I was bushhogging.

Does anybody on the board knows if it is a mechanic (with cable) or electronic one (with sensor) ?

How to check this point ?

Have you heard of Yanmar tractors using electronic tachometers ?

Thanks for your help.

Here is the tractor (not mine but the same model) :

Haven't seen you on in some time . I would look on the back side of the tach. & see if there is a cable attatched & follow it to where it connects to the engine. It shouldn't be hard to tell if it's a mechanical or electrical .

Ken and Buck,

Thanks for answers.

So it's a cable unit. It's Better as I can easily fix the problem. I don't know where I could have found a sensor for an electronic one.

Yes, Ken, I've been out of France for a while with few Internet facilities there.

Buck, what are exactly these models you own :Shibaura V70, Hinomoto JF-1, Yanmar RS30, Yanmar F7H ?

Did you post some pictures of them in the past ?

I just replaced my cable for the tach/hour meter and it all works great now. Very simple task....

GCP,

I had a look last sunday on the tach of my AF22. It's a cable unit just as I've been told by Buck and Kenmac.

But it seems that to remove it I need to take out the radiator.

Just a question : Where exactly your cable was broken ? Near the instrument pannel, near the engine or maybe somewhere else ?

Did you replace it by an original part or a substitute ?

Thanks for the answer.

EuroYanmar, 1danny is right, mine is a YM2000. My cable was broken on the engine side so all I had to do is remove the old and install the new. I was worried about the old piece being still in there and did bring a magnet to fish it out but it was not anywhere I could get to it. If it's still in there it's causing no problems with rendering the new cable non-functional.

Hope this helps,
gcp
