Hello all. This is my dilemma. Never have wrote a forum because ive found what i needed before but here we go!

So i have a john deere 318 with a yanmar 3 cylinder swapped in by someone else. They shorted a fuel pump to it and airlocked it while doing so (i think). Here is where i am.

Changed out fuel for new diesel. Now smokes black when turning it over, used to be white, i have cranked it for a bit and have struggled trying to prime the injection pump. I turn the fuel pump on and i have enough pressure out of delivery valves 1 and 3 to hit me in my face with diesel.

2 pisses weakly. I dont want to touch it anymore because i feel like all im doing it running in circles with my head cut off. Any info or help would be greatly appreciated.

Fuel should not come out of inj pump with just the electric pump on..
The electric pump is either overpowering the dv springs inside the inj pump or your inj pump needs some serious attention..

Now that is a huge upgrade for a JD318 to a modern Yanmar engine. possibly a first from what I recall. I believe the original was an Onan.

You machine could actually be a JD332 Yanmar 3TN66UJ then upgraded to the 3TNE66KE.

Its coming out from where the delivery valve meets the cast of the injection pump itself. I got the motor running. But it leaks as its running because it only wants to run with the fuel pump on. Im going to replace the o rings and see how that goes.
