I have a question about what to expect pay for a used tractor. I found a 1985 2420D parked nearby with Koker 160 FEL and Dual backhoe. The tractor has 548 hours on a 4 digit clock. I saw no signs of leaks, engine and transmission oil looked good. Started up and ran fine with no smoke when cold. Everything seemed to work fine, drove and shifted nice but didn't test 4x4 function. Tires are shot (sun checking and worst one from scrubbing something) but for light use will probably run for several years. There is some light cosmetic damage...cracks in instrument cluster bezel and such but paint appears original with sun fading but no rust. Asking price is 9k. Seemed a little high to me but I don't have a good estimate on the value of the hoe. What should I expect? I have no reason to suspect it has been rebuilt and seller (not a dealer) said it wasn't.
Thanks

A picture would really help if you want an accurate opinion.

YM2420 last made in 1983 according to the books we've seen from Japan.

Ok here are some pictures. The story is it came from a dealer in WA who imported it from japan. Let me know what you think.

Good looking tractor. If you like it & everything works ,go for it.It appears to have shuttle shift. We here, can't tell much about the tractor as ,we haven't heard / seen it operate. There are some web sites where you can check the price. good luck. it's kinda like buying a used vehicle. you never know what can happen

By Looking at the loader valve, your tractor came from Kowlitz tractor in Wa state. They have since gone out of business (2 yrs ago) I speak with Paula the former owner every now & then.

With the backhoe, and the koyker loader ( IF ) everything checks out, its not a bad deal in my opinion

I have a 2220D, they are identical in almost every respect, dimensions, wheel base, capacities, number of gears, etc. The 2420 weighs around 100 lbs more and the engine is a turbo.

So far my 2220D has been a very good tractor and does everything I have asked it to do.

I think the price is good. Go check it out and make him an offer.

The 2420 is a 3 cyl non-turbo engine.

I was just going by what "my" book says. I have an operations manual from Murray Publishing Co. it lists the Ym series 1720-4220 tractors.

I quote the manual " 3 cylinder inline diesel. 3T84H-NA TURBO." All other engine specs including displacement, valve clearances etc are the same as the 2220 series tractors. It also states that the 2420 has 24 PTO HP, and 28 enginge HP, which is two horsepower more than the 2220 tractors.

Maybe your right, i'm pretty new to the Yanmar tractors and learning a little more each day about them.
