The FEL on my 1700 has been much more use than a shovel, I wouldn't think of moving 4 bales of wheat straw with using a shovel,or a dozen cender blocks, or perhaps moving and lifting a window A/C unit over head, :D the list is endless of what task can be done with even a small FEL, Iv'e actually done a bit of digging as well, ;)
You'll use it and find it's limitation, I'm not sure if a bolt on kit has designed into it the ability to tie the Front, Middle and Rear section of the tractor together, This is where my concern was, Being sure not to break the tractor in half, reason being.. when having a FEL you will also need to Ballast the weight by adding weight to the rear,

I use a Box scrape with added hang on weights,
Another weak point of a 1700 is the front spindles, and so I hear can be upgraded, although in my opinion the upgrade's are no more heavier duty then the OEM ones, perhaps maybe heavier duty then the available after market replacements, Testimony to the replacements, I replaced one due to breaking one on my 1700, I had been using the FEL for more than 5 years with no problems, when one day while backing up with a level load of Georgia red clay, turning sharp to the left the right spindle snapped off, I ordered the replacement thinking well if the OEM has last this long I should maybe get the same from the aftermarket, NOT!

When after installing the aftermarket replacement and using it for the first time with just a little more weight than the loader itself, maybe 50 lb's more, ( load of rotten apples) I notice the wheel leaning inward, indicating the spindle had already bent and just under the FEL weight itself, + 50 lbs.

Certainly less superior than the OEM one it had replaced, incidentally: the left side ( OEM ) spindle is still working fine, as for the replacement, I heat it up and was able to straighten it with a torch, but again it re-bent, atleast hasn't broken:thumbsup:

So Yes! I agree our ym 1700 are great little tractors and can be excelled to do many task when adding a FEL , but first be sure to reinforce the weak points of this tractor before adding a FEL or things will break,

Another reason 4 wheel drive is superior for loaders. Much stronger front ends.

I have a YM2000 and wouldn't even consider a FEL. on it. I use a 55hp. JD5103 2wd. with a FEL. and know all to well the capability's of it. On the Yanmar if I was planning on using it for a Hobby Garden I would consider it. The 2000 is my Wkly. FM Mower that I cut at least 2.5-3 acres, My front yard so a Quick Disconnect Bucket would be a must. The 5103 is used on 35 acres and the Bucket literally stays off!!! Unless a Tree goes down etc. and that's rarely. Also on the front Spindles, the way the 5103 Front Axles built is comical to the Yanmar. But the 2000 really shines on Rear Attachments that doesn't require a lot of HP. There Rice Patty Tractors. and it doesn't take much to use the Tiller that was made for it. Which I had one. A RS.1400 series 5Ft.. The FM mower I use is a 5Ft. JD/Woods.. About the same.

Off the subject Aaron, but what is the PSI of your RC-28 radiator cap?

7psi... I think. I just looked and they are not marked but 7psi sticks in my mind for some reason. I will research more though & see what I can find.

Here was a partial conversation with Winston on SSB forum. He thinks it is 12-13#. I would hate to put my system under 12-13# pressure after 36 years at 7# which I am pretty sure it had..

"You could be right Winston, however I just replaced my original 7# cap, (all printing in Japanese except for a clearly legible Arabic 7), with Hoye's RC-28 cap. a Stant 10228 cap is 7#. Hoye generally uses a partial mfg. part # to ID their aftermarket parts. 7# and 12# caps have been a matter of discussion for years. I suspect Aaron can answer the question.

Here was my partial statement on SSB:

"Page 54 in the 135/155 repair manual states radiator is pressurized at 12.8 psi.

Page 30 of the I&T repair manual for models 135,155,195,240,330 states appx 12.8 psi and is maintained by the radiator cap.

Repair manual for 220/226 states on page 220-05-3 "when cooling system pressure exceeds 13
psi a valve in the radiator cap opens to allow steam to discharge into the expansion tank, where it is condensed."

You will note Hoye sells the same cap for each of the above listed models."

How many of those manuals were actually written by Yanmar. Don't know if my YM240, YM195 Yanmar manual even says. It's 750 miles away.

Carey is yours an origainal cap?

I dont think service manuals even written by after market companies will give specs that are 40+% over what the factory reccomends.

I thought of that also and believe it is the Org. cap. Everything else is on it and being a Mid to Late 70's Era Tractor the Rating of 13 Lbs. and not PSI makes me tend to think it is.
