Yanmar 1500 specs

I just bought a Yanmar 1500 but not picked it up yet. It has a 6 spline PTO and I am just wanting information about about the tractor. Are they a good performer? Anyone have trouble finding normal AG rear tires? I think this one has 22 inch on it. If someone can verify that. What are the pro's and con's on this one. Is there a grey market version of this model? I think this one is a U.S. verson as all the decals are in english. Not sure about these just wanting more information. This one was rebuilt by a reputable builder and the guy has had the tractor for 4 years with only one seal failure that he replaced. I just could not see spending twice as much on a kubota or deere to do the same thing. Where can I find the year by the serial number? Is this a US version?

8.3-22 "rice" tires are what it came with- they are available but very expensive. Around $360ea new. You can put another size on there though if you want an ag tread tire- especially if it is 2wd.

Where can I find the year by the serial number?

There is no way to know the exact year it was made. The serial numbers are just incremental - not like a vin number that has vehicle information in it.

It has almost new Rice tires on it. I was just wondering what type of regular AG tires in the 22in size were available. Do they make a 8-22 ag tire?

Thanks for the input, I really know nothing about these yanmars I had dealt with Mitsu mostly. The yanmar is a little larger than my mitsu in size.

Probably the best testimonial I have seen is a guy who said he used a YM1500 for a week. He liked it so much he went in to the business of importing Yanmars. Now he he spends half his time in Japan scouting good Yanmars to support his sales here. I think you will love yours.

I think there were only two 'year models' of 1500, 'early' (with stamped bellhousing) and 'late' (cast bellhousing). You need to distinguish that when ordering parts. You might be asked for the S/N on a few parts.

I have never seen one. They do make a 9.5-22 ag tire. It is about 2" bigger diameter though. If it is 2wd it won't matter but 4wd it might.

I saw a thread somewhere a while back where a guy mentioned he "converted" his rice tires to ag tires with (I think it was) a sawzall. He just cut off part of each cleat. That would have less effect on gearing than going with 9.5s.

I actually thought of doing that also. I will do a search and see what comes up. Are the Rice tires good in the garden? I assume they would be, but I have also heard that they kinda roll on hillsides also.

Fill your rear tires with a methanol/water mix. It will make the tractor more stable all around. I was reluctant at first but it handles better on the hills, has more traction and the bushhog does not wag the tractor anymore. The rice tires are good in the garden but will make a mess of a fine turf yard after a while.
