Re: Y\'all asked for it.........SNOW!

I thought that was a bit ironic, with all the fear of "global warming" NYC got more snow in a 24hr period than they have ever had since record keeping began...

It snowed on and of all day yesturday in South Atlanta... We got about 1/8" to wake up too /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif, but nothing else stuck /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif.. We havent had much to speak if in the past couple of years, so the kid was disapointed...Guess I was too, but I get to drive to Knoxville this morning... That should be fun, their talking about icey roads starting north of Atlanta....

17 inches fell here. It is nice to see the ground covered again. At least this time the ground is frozen underneath.

Re: Y\'all asked for it.........SNOW!

We got 19 inches on the North Shore of Boston - officially, but it is really hard to tell as it was blowing and drifting like crazy.

Great fun yesterday though. We get big drifts (up to 7 feet) down the center of our driveway. About 1 PM they were up to about three feet. I went out and simply drove through them with the loader - 20 minutes and the drive was cleared!!

First winter with a semi real tractor - JD 445 with a loader. I know it's more like a toy to some of you, but it works for me.

Here's one pic...

That's a VW Jetta for a height comparison. This was from a 20+" storm in 2003 with 50-60MPH winds. Pre-tractor, pre-snowblower it took my wife and I 7 hours to shovel the drive.

Bought a snowblower the next week!

It snowed all day here, and we accumulated all of about 1/2", but only on the ground, the pavement stayed clear.
Today, it was 15* when I came to work at 6 am and it's supposed to be close to 60* later this afternoon! Snow never had a chance this year for us here in KC.......

We had 23F this morning and it's already 61, but just dry. We'd take any kind of precipitation we could get. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

I'd like the pic of the 445 w/loader going through the 7' drift (sorry I didn't make it more clear /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif )

NUTTIN HERE!
All the hubbub, and good ol Upstate NY doesn't get
an inch from this one.
We did get 18 inches here last week,, mostly lake affect, but with the colder temps that kind of snow doesn't amount to much.. sled trails are already gone to ****.. and what is left will disappear this week with rain and temps in the 40's coming.
Well, at least till saturday,, then another cold blast and maybe some snow...
Enjoy it while you got it!

Hey Beenthere;

Unfortunately you will have to use your imagination. Sunday was the first time I've used the tractor to move snow - we didn't have it when the original pics were taken, and we didn't manage to get any pics of the 445 in action.

Here's a pic of the tractor with loader though...

Re: Y\'all asked for it.........SNOW!

It doesn't matter how big it is. The important thing is that is does the job you want it to do. I'd prefer a much bigger machine than my 27hp Cub Cadet. A bigger machine wouldn't be able to get into where I want to go and do the things I would need to do easily.

Re: Y\'all asked for it.........SNOW!

I'm with you 100% JimR

I got the 445 because it seems like about the best compromise. The major use of it is mowing about 2 acres of lawn - which it does really really well. The loader is for some light landscaping - raised beds, compost bins, moving trees and shrubs around for planting and snow removal.

I also wanted a tractor that was flexible enough to do other things - I rough mow about 5 acres 3X per year. Right now I'm doing it with the MMM, but looking at other options by adding the 3PH and rear PTO.

It's a small platform with plenty of power (19 PTOHP), that is maneuverable. The loader while maybe tiny in comparison to some is still WAY ahead of a wheelbarrow.

Cheers!

Rob
