John Deere 1010 LS XR4040
Did some light duty mowing and parked the tractor in the shop. Next day I noticed fluid leak under the tractor. Maybe 1/2 cup. Went outside and noticed a trail of fluid leading to the shop. The red arrow in the pic is the location of the leak, it looks like a bolt hole and feels like it has threads. Would someone with a 4040 or a 4046 look under their tractor and see if there is a bolt in that hole? I think it is hydraulic/trans. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Red arrow also points at the front of tractor.

Not a bolt located there on my XR4046HC.

Thanks Bluesteel, guess I'll be calling the dealer tomorrow. Tractor hasn't got but 23 hrs. I wonder where that hole leads to?

Strange. I'm curious if that hole has a bottom. I will check with a light and small screw driver or piece of wire. Is yours still leaking out of there when sitting or just when moving?

It leaked while sitting still. When I backed the tractor out today it seemed to leak worse when running. Hope it's nothing serious. Thanks

I checked mine. There is no bottom and no threads. At first look I thought there were but I don't think there is. I'm not sure what you have going on. I'm wondering if you have some type of seal leaking into that housing and then running out the hole. Curious to hear what your dealer thinks.

I didn't get to call the dealer today, unusually busy. Checked tractor when I got home and it hadn't leaked a drop. Took it out and mowed about 30 mins. And if it leaked any it wasn't much. I wonder if tilting the tractor up about 30 degrees on the right side could have caused it. I mowed a short strip where the right side was up right much higher than the left. I hope that's all it was. I will still call the dealer when I get the chance and post back his opinion.

Dealer got back with me. He said he forwarded my pic to the LS service rep and he said it was a seal. Said he would pick it up and fix asap. Will post results.

Good deal. They'll get you taken care of.

Good deal. Curious on how involved replacing the seal is. Usually it's many hours for a 50 cent seal.
I am curious also. I asked the service mgr and he said they would have to look at it before they knew for sure but they might have to split the tractor. I hope not but at least it's under warranty.

I called today and talked to the service manager, he said seal on front of transmission was leaking and fluid had gotten on the clutch plate. Of course they had to split the tractor. They have parts on order and should get tractor back tomorrow or Monday. Probably Monday would be my guess. Oh and he said they were replacing clutch plate and seal.

I've seen mechanics split tractors and put them back together like it's nothing. Only sounds bad.:)

Well tractor is still at the dealer. They have the leak repaired but I got them to check on another intermittent problem of the engine surging. Sometimes at idle it wouldn't hold a steady rpm. Usually after warmup it would run fine. They've got a solenoid on order that's supposed to fix it. I'm ready to get back into the seat even though our temps have been in the upper 90's to 100's.

Sounds like they are getting you taken care of. May as well get everything done while it's there.
