I was mowing today, and the dash light for low oil started coming on intermittently. Dip stick showed oil level at proper level. I was putting heavy load on the engine: going up a hill, running the 62c mower deck thru tall grass, and pulling a dethatcher attachment. The engine would lose power in short spells, then continue running. Now the engine warning light comes on and off sporadically while running with no load.
I did an oil change 2 weeks ago; running 10w30 semi-synthetic. The dipstick shows oil that appears to be totally clear, like right out of the can. It's sorta like there's no circulation of the oil thru the engine. It has only 350 hrs on it, but I'm concerned it has major problems. Anyone have an idea what the warning light is telling me?
thanks. jim.

Have you checked oil pressure with a gauge yet? That would be the next move imo.

I had a 6.9 diesel pickup many years ago with similar symptoms, barely made it to a dealership on a cross country trip. After pulling the engine the mechanic found a cracked oil pick up tube.

Another vote to put a gauge on to check the pressure. Should be in the neighborhood of 40-50 psi, but double check the manual if you have one.

My first thought is the oil pressure sensor or wiring is giving you a false indication, but it could be telling you the truth and there is something wrong internally.
