Buying Advice X500 vs X530

Thanks for the input on 320 vs 500.

I have decided on the X500 family. However, I am starting to think that in 9 years or so (other side of 70) that the hyd lift for the mower deck and really the 44" snow blower might be a good idea on the X530.

Comments please!

I went from an old Snapper rider to an x720 and found that the power steering is great and the hydraulic lift is also very nice especially with a tractor the size of the x500. It make mowing fun. I still have the old snapper tractor and it still runs great but I now really enjoy the JD.

I have X500 and it does take a fair amount of left leg strength to lift the deck. Extra cost of X530 for senior citizen would be justified IMO.

I just sold a x540 I had for 5 years. An excellent machine. It had power steering, hydraulic deck lift and tilt steering wheel. When I bought it I didn't feel I needed those features, but opted for it for my wife. She never once sat on the machine (to my benefit :thumbsup

But I have to say, it was great having all of them - especially the power steering. It was effortless to mow. And the hydraulic lift was nice too. Our land is uneven and I repeatedly raised and lowered the deck.

I have an x530, with about 85 hours on it now. I can say my favorite feature is probably the power steering (and I'm only 31), and the hydro deck lift is really nice as well. I'd go for the x530 or 540 if you prefer the liquid cooled engine. Your dad will really thank you for it, once he uses that power steering for the first time.

Here is my x540 I just sold.

I had it 5 years and put 235 hours on it. What a great machine and good investment. I paid $7100 for it in 2008 and got pretty close to my asking price of $5400. I sold it to an older gentleman and his wife. They were thrilled. The power steering and hydraulic deck lift impressed them and I think made a difference in their decision to buy. So I can say that it may help with resale down the road.
