X500 steering/sector gear replacement

Has anyone ever replaced the steering/sector gear on an X500 or similar. The steering went out on me in the middle of mowing yesterday. I took the deck off and looked underneath. The center teeth on the steering gear are toast. I was able to track down the part at a local deal but am having trouble removing the old one. Any thoughts or experiences would be appreciated. Thanks.

Sorry to hear! I just put my deck back on yesterday. Raise it up and support it securely. My advice is to remove all that is in the way and connected.

No but the X500 has a 4 year warranty so maybe it's covered?
