We all have our traditions right? Well ours started out many years ago when the kids were younger, much younger. Starts out long befor X-Mass. The wife and I would have a spicial dinner for our birthdays, big days what ever. We would cook hotdogs for the kids and send them off to bed. We would do steaks or lobsters or crab or oysters, something special. As the kids got older, they were not so easyly fooled. The kids would say "what are you having???" and we'd send them back up to bed. My dauater, the youngest of three, was the first to push for a taist of what "we" we having. Once it was basic snow crab, not so special now days but at the time...Up she hoped on my wife's lap and that was the begining of big trouble. Can you guess what her faverite dinner is now?? Crab. Latter we moved up to King crab for our special dinners. Now I'm an old man and my kids are in their 20's. Last few times we did the crabs and had the kids join, my daughter (and I to keep up with her) acted like it was an all you can eat buffet, "first come first get". Well to say the least there were a few disapointed eaters as the shells piled up around my daughter (and me). So after a long bit here, now we buy lots of King Crab and all pig out. It's only a good meal if there are still legs in the pot and no takers. It is now a joke, but also good eating. So much for Turkey or ham

Just though I'd share how our X-Mass tradition started, how about yours??

In-laws used to serve Lutefisk around the holidays (I wouldn't touch the disgusting stuff).

My Nephew (4 at the time) was always talking about going hunting, so my FIL told him at X-Mas dinner that "all graet hunters eat Lutefisk." Naturally he gulped down a helping and asked for more. About halfway through the 2nd helping, he got a funny look on his face and became quiet - Then he proceed to ralph all the way across the table in true projectile fashion.

It's been years since Lutefisk was served...

Did not know what Lutefisk was so I looked it up in Wikipedia. Some heavy duty chemicals used to prepare the fish. The humor stories at the end of the article had me rolling on the floor . . . .

Our Christmas Dinner tradition has been the usual; turkey, ham, mashed potatoes, stuffing, gravy, rolls, sweet potatoes, green beans, cranberry sauce, a couple of kinds of salads, pumpkin pie, and pecan pie.

This year I decided to add a marinade injected, smoked pork loin and a marinade injected, smoked beef roast, and my wife baked a cake. Some family members also brought an apple pie, an assortment of homemade cookies, and a different kind of "strawberry shortcake" like my mother used to make when we were kids. To make that, you bake 3 plain pie crusts or shells and let them cool. Then you put a pie crust on a plate, add strawberries, then real whipped cream, set the second pie crust on that, add a second layer of strawberries and whipped cream, then the same with the third pie crust. DELICIOUS!!!

This year, I'd say we probably only had enough food for 35 to 40 people and there were eleven of us to eat it. Since I had suspected that might happen, I had bought an assortment of disposable containers, so no one went home without carrying a lot of food with them. That way I won't be eating leftovers for more than another 3 or 4 days.:D
