Well to my amazement a new 4320 came in so I took it for a small test drive. First impressions:

Nice machine compared to the older 4000 and TENs. Same rear fenders and I match placement as larger framed 4000 TENs.

Plastic hood improved to X series quality finally. Not the cheap stuff on the older 4000s. OK it was not that bad but not as nice as the X series IMHO.

It is a pretty big compact. After driving it, it felt the same size as the 5205 we used to have on the lot.

Digital dash! Tells info like Lo Fuel, ground speed which is very neat to look at when driving, Hrs, etc.

The engine reves way up when you start it for a second the drops down to idle. Great sounding engine and it is quiet. Not louder than the Yanmars.

E Hydro is unchanged from previous versions and is nice.

Non suspended pedals are like my 990 so I am used to it but I find pedal effort no more difficult. I like them.

Gas tank opening is very small like 2''. Not as nice as the older 4000s with the big cap. My 4300 easy to fill at the pump this 4320 looks difficult. We will probably see a lot of faded plastic on the dash due to fuel spillage.

The tires are big and the front axle is the same design from the 4000 series.

The hood latch needs to be changed. It has 2 pointy ends and is like a U shape. All bare metal I would have added ruber grips on the ends. There is no springs or hood latch to hold the hood up that I could see it rasies way high in the air and is kind of awkward to lower. I would like to see a hood latch and or gas shocks to hold it up.

Would I buy one? Maybe kind of a neat tractor with the turbo and all. I would get one in turfs and a Power reverser and probably be happy with it.

Good info, thanks. I take it your impression of noise level was that it is in the same ballpark as the old large frame 4000 Tens. What was your take on vibration compared to the old 4-cylinder Yanmars? When I first started test driving the JD CUTs I was surprised at the vibration on the first 4510 I drove - until I jumped on a 4310 which was actually worse. The 4-cylinder Yanmar's seemed OK - but not nearly as smooth as some 4-cylinder gas tractors I've driven of similar engine size.

I don't get the 20 series myself. Four tractors with HP range of 43 - 58. Same engine / displacement, same weight, same 3pt specs. Seems that JD could have covered this market space with at the most 2 models.

No argument there. A non-turbo/turbo pair would have made a lot of sense. 'Course there's more than one aspect to this new series that doesn't seem to reflect the most sensible choices. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

The very old 4000s(5years) and the 4010 (3 years)are all 3 cylinders not 4 as the 20s models. I wish I were rich, I would but a new CUT when ever JD acts like the Auto Industry, soon we will have a new and improved model every year or maybe like the soap Company monthly new models. Will that not be great.

All 4500/4600/4700, and 4510/4610/4710's were 4-cylinder. As is yellowsocks 990. Only the smaller frame models were 3 cylinder.

I have little practical experience here, but I would tend to agree. Seems to me that once you get above the 40 hp threshold that a 5 hp increment is'nt enough to justify another machine.

I find my 990 and our 970 4 cylinders as well as the large frame 4000 series are very nice machines and very smooth running engines. The Powertech in the new ones seem the same for vibration. No less than the 990.

Whoops guys I made a mistake! There is a hood support latch hidden vertically by the radiator. I tred it out today but it did not hold the hood very well at all. Gas shocks are the way to go on this hood as they use gas shocks on the big ag tractors with this style hood.

Also that radiator screen is made out of plastic and canvas like sides which is very cheap. I don't get why JD did not use a metal screen here like previous versions. There is such a large gap between the actual radiator and the screen that material can get on the radiator and still clog it up.
