One other thing to keep in mind with the new fords is that they crammed as much stuff as possible on top the engine to prevent from having to pull the cab to replace parts. One day your truck will be out of warranty and you will have to eat the cost of a cab off repair or to dig through that topside mess to work on things. A friend of mine just changed a leaking hose that required the cab to be pulled. The warranty ticket was over $700 just to change that hose. Had he been out of warranty this is what he would have faced to change a $50 hose. Just a little food for thought.

I have an '06 Tundra, and pull a light (5200# dry) 5th wheel. Coming home from this last trip confirmed my suspicions, it's not really something I want to count on for long hauls. Sooooo I am looking to upgrade my truck. New is out of the question, and it will be a diesel.

I believe a 3/4T will be more than sufficient, with the diesel, for my desires. Someday we might upgrade the trailer, but nothing the 3/4 would not handle.

I am not stuck on one brand, but would like honest opinions of the years 2005-2010 3/4T diesel trucks. I am kinda partial to the looks of the Ford or GM, but I know the Cummins has a great reputation for good fuel mileage and power.

Is there any year, of either of these three brands I should avoid? I know the Ford 6.0 had troubles, but those supposedly can be cured, but I really only would want one that was already "cured". Any Cummins or Duramax issues to be wary of? Since I will be buying used, is there a certain mileage that any of them start having big problems?

A lot of questions, I know, and appreciate any help I can get. I am just starting to do this research.

My '05 Dodge has been good to me (5.9 Cummins, NV5600 six-speed, B&W goose, 4WD, Jake, etc.). I run an Edge E-Z Tow module along with a Westach dual EGT/Boost gauge and Schaeffer's lubes and fuel treatment. Running around with an empty truck right now (mostly county roads and under 60mph) and the overhead is showing 22.1 mpg so :dance1:

Nah, me and momma are still in the decision phase. Another truck, another trailer, or quit trailering altogether. Some of it depends on this AFORDABLE health care act. If I get dropped and have to pay a lot more it may cancel out what I can pay on a payment.
