Forgot about the transfer case problem. I didn't know what years it was on. Are you talking about the pin that comes out the back side of the T case? If so I've been told that a small amount of JB weld seals the hole. Doesn't cause that big of a problem as far as I hear.

For got something on dodges also. The front drive shaft knuckle closest to the T case goes out and take the break lines wiring harness and T case with it. If you get a drive line vibration in a dodge check that one first and replace it pronto.

If you grease the driveshaft they don't cause a problem on the Ram.

JB Weld is only a band aid fix. If you don't address the design flaw, the pump housing will continue hammering on the case and wear more holes. I rebuilt my pump using the kit from Merchant Automotive. Kennedy Diesel also has a kit. If you do the work yourself, you are only out 3-4 hours and under $100 in parts.

The flaw I know of is an alignment pin that pushes through the back side of the T case. Is this the same thing you are talking about?

I think we are referring to the same problem but there is no actual "pin." The fluid pump for the transfer case "free floats" on the main shaft. There is a factory installed clip that is supposed to prevent the pump from moving too much during operation. This clip usually falls off or breaks and allows the pump ears to hammer against the soft magnesium case half leading to a pinhole on top of the rear case half. Merchant Automotive makes a custom aluminum pump housing that has wide ears that won't cut the case. Kennedy Diesel has a steel ring that fits around the pump ears and protects the case. If you want photos or more info, do a google search with the term GM pump rub.

Thank you. Always better to have the correct information.

Once you get the pump rub issue its a done deal. My neighbor had to replace the Transfer Case on his 07 Dmax 3500 SRW right at 103,000 miles. My co pilot at my last job had to do it on a 03 2500 series gas Yukon. He made it to about 140,000 miles. Either way its costly and something GM knew about but continued production for about 15 years with this flaw when a $3 part is all these transfer cases need to be nearly bullet proof.

Just an update from my end. Been looking and it does look like I will be spending more than I had hope originally, so assuming I get 15K from my truck (book is 15-18 but I always factor the low number) I will have to finance another 15K, that part will hurt. The better ones listed seem to be in the high 20's or right at 30K. Those are 06-07 crew cab 4x4's with right at or under 100k miles on them.

Most likely won't happen before Christmas though. Too much to think about and do before then.
