So, you're just peeing all over TSO's good deal and happy occasion for some other reason then?

I'm not peeing on anyone. This thread was started to discuss work UTVs and narrow down choices, i.e., the title of the thread. And as TSO said, he's not married to green. And I'm sure he'd buy something different if a good deal came along. He's proved that in the past with various purchases.

Let's hear about your Kubota and see some pictures??

Here's the start of this thread:

Hello ... Looking for a work machine for my wife. Something to truck around feed, water, straw, garden supplies, rocks, firewood, etc.

I'm not really familiar with all of the offerings, and hoping someone can narrow down some contenders ... And rank them as well.

Here's the requirements:

4x4
2 seater.
Open station.
Dump bed.
Good payload & towing.
Slow ... Not looking for speed.
Price (low) and good financing (cash poor at the moment).
Reliability.
Ease of maintenance.
Easy to operate.

I'm most familiar with the JD units, and was leaning towards the Gator HDX. JD website says it's around $9500 msrp, but not sure on retail price. Was gonna go look today at my local dealer but they're closed Sunday's.

Which machines would compare directly with the Gator so I know which to look for? And what are some of the prices I should expect to see?

Thanks in advance!

Here's some of your first responses, didn't copy them all as it just goes downhill:

Whatever you buy, you'll get what you paid for. Not sure your idea of a good price will coincide with a good work UTV. I'm not even sure you are ready to commit the kind of money it'll take to buy something worthwhile. We'll see. :)

Yep, pound for pound, dollar for dollar, a Sami will outwork all of the UTVs and outlast all but possibly the largest Kubotas. But then, you could buy 20 Samis for the same money so I guess it would also outlast them. :)

Because I think the Kubota large units are built a lot better than the Deere models.

I understand everyone's needs are different. And we must buy what we can use practically. But, without looking back, I believe you just purchased 7 Samis using ultrarunner's example?? Neither your Gator or the Kubota's mentioned will outlast 7 Samis. Not a flame. Just a fact.

We're in territory that's extremely hard to prove. I'll just say, when your Gator has the hours/miles on it that ultrarunner's Sami has we can further discuss the repairs necessary to get you there.

As to repair parts and their cost, see above statement. You can buy a complete front axle assembly for a Sami for what you'll pay for an individual axle shaft on the Gator.

With little time investigating it is visually apparent that the chassis of the large Kubotas are built stronger and with longer lasting design than the Gators. That would be proven on the scales as well.

I'm not flaming any color. Just clarifying.

Final point, I believe ultrarunner is already $6000 ahead of you in cost output. So your Gator has a lot of catch-up to do. :)

And, you're not peeing on his good deal and happy occasion? You have issues.

I put a picture in some "let's see your..." type thread before, go look it up. What does it have to do with you peeing on someone's happy occasion?

I don't think Eric is envious at all. And I'm sure if he wanted a UTV he'd figure out a way to have one. And to the best of my knowledge, he doesn't have a wife. :confused3:

I'm also one of the longest private lakeshore owners in a county filled with lakes and I have no boat.

Anyway, I'm happy for TSO at finding himself a UTV. I'm hoping to find a Viking in some sort of "reparable" condition on places like crashed toys.com

Pictures of your UTV has to do with the thread's intent of discussing the various models and options. Why wouldn't you want to discuss it.

I'll guarantee you TSO does not feel pee'd on at all. And I'll also guarantee you TSO will not regret or appreciate his purchase based on anything I or anyone else on this thread says about it. He's way beyond that. This thread started as a discussion about work UTVs. Coincidence led to the purchase of one. If TSO feels further discussion should not happen on "his" thread all he has to do is contact the Administrators and they will lock it.

Friend of mine bought a Kawasaki Teryx off Craigslist with a blown motor very cheap. Rebuilt it and got a lot of hard use out of it.

It's true that I like a good deal, and I'm always watching out for one. But, a good deal only goes as far as being useful, and because of the specific needs/requirements for this particular purchase, I wouldn't have picked up just any UTV. I didn't see anything from Kubota that was worth the price, considering the undersized utility bed. Even though, as your visual observations decided, the Kubota will outlast the Deere because it's allegedly built better...

I looked at a lot of UTV's, and they were all more similar than different. This style Deere appeared to seem more rugged and built for "work" than many of the other units, and most appeared, in my opinion, to be built for the yuppie hunter who wanted to race thru deer camp and drop some bait bags.

I don't feel pee'd on ... Just a little stupefied by your exaggerations in this thread, and your strange talking points. I'm assuming you're just having a bad day, because you typically don't make such silly arguments.

I don't have anything bad to say about any of the vehicles discussed in this thread except for sticker shock.

Twenty minutes ago I was in a showroom with maybe 50 Kawasaki Polaris models plus two other brands... the big ones are every bit as big as my Suzi... just not as heavy.

My only other complaint is with the Chinese knockoff a family member bought which has proved to be a lesson in mechanical repair for his 13 year old son... 2 hours work for 15 minutes of fun and thing was bought new!

I bought my 1987 Samuria in 1997 for $1050 dollars and drove it home... the owner was selling it because it had a transmission noise.

Tore it down and found a bad bearing in the transmission... while at it... I replaced the clutch disk although it had plenty of life in it.... total cost of parts $80

Over the last 18 years I am on my second battery and bought a new canvas top... passes emission testing each time and has never failed to start right up...

Here is a picture I posted on TBN before...

http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/...got-sand-buggy-christmas-38-bantam-suzuki-jpg

Paint is starting to get bad on the hood and it shows... the tires are at least 18 years old and so are the brakes...

I work it hard towing trailers out of the back 40 and using the back to haul all manor of stuff since I took the back seat out...

Only issue is the radio stopped working and I never bothered to fix it after making sure it had power...
