Work at my place or be nice to the neighbors?

Interesting to read. I thought the deer that just casually walked across my driveway in front of me while I was on the tractor was something unique. It was bizarre to watch a deer just mosey by at a slow pace 10 feet in front of me, but apparently this is not unheard of when on a tractor. Now I understand why deer aren't king of the jungle.

You have to understand the prey animal mentality. They know when their being stalked.:licking:

If I get in there with the tractor and work all day I'm sure to drive the deer away from the area or at least get them skittish.

Not a chance. You will actually bring deer into your area - they can't help but come around to see what all the racket is. If you really want to bring them in, fire up a chainsaw and let that run at the same time. Any logger will tell you that deer always come in to find out what is going on.

Even funnier - if you put on a motorcycle helmet, they won't be able to figure out what you are, and will stand and stare while you ride right up to them. I've always wanted to set up a hunting stand with a running chainsaw and me wearing a helmet. I swear I could walk up and just bash them with a baseball bat if I wanted to.

I've run across so many deer while riding my 2-stroke dirtbike - I have to stop since they tend to stand in the middle of the trail, then almost always just stand there and stare at me with that "deer in the headlights" look. "Whatthehellis THAT?? Don't put your lips on it!"

I have had deer follow me while I was on my dozer, within 10' or less. Now if I shut the machine off then that is a different story.

other than food plots the two biggest deer attractants are bulldozers and chaisaws...

I pretty much agree with the other posters, I can't walk worth snot and have a permit to hunt from a vehicle, but I would never use one of my Kubotas as that would be "cheating". They are fascinated by tractors.

If you are on the tractor and a deer comes by this weekend make sure you are not in line with the rifle and the deer. Don't want to see you get shot by being in the line of fire since your tractor attracts deer! Good thing it is Kubota Orange! Another benefit of not driving JD green! Might blend in with the trees and grass. Philip

A chainsaw is like a dinner bell to Deer. Maybe with all those feeders around it's different than around here though.
