Just picked up a rm59. It is a bit rough but usable. Does anybody have one? Are these worth fixing up? The wheel shafts are totally wobbled out. Otherwise except for paint in very usable condition. A new belt was installed a couple of years ago. I have heard these will last a live time. Could somebody give me some instructions on maintaining, ajusting, and general mowing with this model. I am not acustomed to no wheels in the front. I guess I chain it up to prevent scalping as much as possible. Any feedback would be wonderful.

I've used mine as a finish mower and occasional light brush. It was abused in a commerical op before I got it. The front skids were replaced with 6 in channel iron with a flat bar on the bottom. Other than the idler pully bearing being destroyed by puddled water, it was trouble free. Never replaced belts or blades. Easy to get parts. SteveV

I've been using one of these as my only lawn mower sence April of 1977. First one lasted me over 20 years, Keeping up about 5 acers of grass and some custom work.

Yes chains control the front height. the dash 1 series belts do not last as long as they are manually adjusted tension. Abuse of tall grass or brush will cost you a belt!! this a finish mower!!

I grease the pto u-joints, wheels, and wheel shafts every time I hook up the deck and the blade spendels every twenty hours or so. this unit has treated me very well.

I wish you well

Thanks for the information. It looks like I can get the wheels at my local TSC store. At $27 each that will not be so bad. Just need to sharpen the blades. Any special method used for sharpen the blades? Other then cosmetics it should last me a long, long time. I have been told that grease is my friend. This seems to be the answer for your 20yr stent for your first mower.
