Rotary Cutter Woods 720 questions

Looking at a Woods 720 that's probably from the late 90s or early 00s. It's needs some patches welded in from being stored out in the weather but doesn't have a lot of use on it otherwise. I don't think this is an X version. Does anyone know what size trees this is rated for?

It's actually built like a tank. I was able to find a few hits for them and it appears they're rated for 4". At some point they were made lighter duty and renamed 720X and the gear box on those is smaller and black. Those are rated for 3".

MF231owner - have you ever seen a video or real life of a rotary cutter - cutting 3" trees or brush??? If this is your goal - best have some darn good type of guard between where you sit on the tractor and the cutter.

I have the brochure in my hands for the Woods Brushhogs from when I was shopping back in 2001. At the time, Woods made three lines of Brushhogs:

• BB72 "Standard Duty", 702 lbs, 1" cutting capacity, 65 HP gearbox, intended for 30-65 HP tractors
• BB720 "Medium Duty", 1140 lbs, 2" cutting capacity, 120 HP gearbox, intended for 35-120 HP tractors
• BB7200 "Heavy Duty", 1330 lbs, 4" cutting capacity, 150 HP gearbox, intended for 50-150 HP tractors

I ended up with a Woods BB60 for my tractor. I had contemplated going for the BB600, but the dealer talked me out of it (They did have both in stock). The BB60, even though Woods rated it as "standard duty" was better build than many of the other brands I looked at. I've cut down 2" White Pine with it. That was pushing things. I would not have tried it on hardwoods. It does the rated 1" stems without a problem, whether hard or softwood. I have no problem believing that the BB720 could handle 2" without a problem.

I've got a 720X,

I've ran over and taken out some 4" and 5" pines with it and quite a few 3" and smaller ones,

It really eats them up, but there's no way I'd run over a 5" hardwood with it.

I hope you have a tractor with a really tough pto driveline, or your tractors not going to take the abuse of taking out tree's anywhere near that size, not for long that is.

I've been cutting 2" with this old mower trying to reclaim some neglected pasture. I have no doubt that the Woods will handle a bit more.
