WoodMaxx Wm-8H Chipper Review

   / WoodMaxx Wm-8H Chipper Review #11
Assembly was pretty straight forward. Make sure the yellow feeder lift bar clears the red hydraulic feed control bar that is directly under it. (The bars that are above the feed inlet) Mine interfere and when I put a large limb in and it causes the yellow feed lift bar to bounce up and down it hits the red feed control and throws it in neutral. It's annoying to say the least, I just keep forgetting to adjust one or the other. The brackets may have been bent or welded slightly out of place. I believe this is what caused the hydraulic feed control lever to break apart.

Mine came in yesterday and I got it all together. I will double check the bars now that you mentioned it - thanks

Now if the weather would only clear up so I could get out there and use it!!!

Would 29 pto hp have a WM-8H chipping 6"+ pine at a reasonable feed rate?
Or does it need more power?

I won't be chipping that size stuff all the time but I want the ability to do it without stalling the tractor or having to wait while it works at a low feed rate.

My tractor is rated at 35 hp at the pto and it doesn't even know its back there. This is a heavy wood chipper with a very solid base so its very still while its running. It also has a very heavy flywheel so once its up to speed there's really no strain on the tractor. I'd imagine you'd be fine. Woodmaxx specs this chipper for 19 hp minimum anyways.

There's a video of someone chipping with a WM-8H and a 19hp tractor and it bogs down and nearly stalls the tractor on a 4" branch. So I'm skeptical of that lower hp limit.

Does your doesn't even know it's there include 6"+ softwood branches?

Thanks.

I have 42hp at the PTO and can run it at capacity with hardwoods at a pretty high feed rate. If you slow the rate down and running softwoods I would think you will be ok. If it starts to bog on a hard spot you can just hit the feed stop for a second or two then press it forward again so it can recover. Not a big deal with a hydro feed unit.

I've never had it bog down on the few occasions I've put something up to 6 inches in but anything over 5 or so is typically set aside for firewood.

2015 WoodMaxx WM-8H good when the hydraulic feed works. But despite their service dept. Advice it will not feed unless the oil is thick in the morning for 5-10 minutes. Tried honing regulator spool valve with 320 emery but not any better. Is there an STP OIL TREATMENT TO INCREASE THE HYDRAULIC OIL FROM 68 RATING TO SOMETHING THICKER,? OR ANY OTHER ADVISE WOULDE WELCOME. VERY FRUSTRATED WITH THIS PROBLEM. HYDRAULIC PUMP IS BEING DRIVEN FINE, SHAFT NUT TIGHT. EVEN BYPASSING THE REGULATOR HYD. DEVICE WILL NOT HELP SUGGESTING A WRAK OIL PRESSURE OUTPUT FROM THE HYD. MOTOR.

I have a WM WC46. One problem with it is if one gets a piece stuck under the hydraulic feed roller. I understand and have seen pictures of the feed roller lifter built into the Woodmaxx. A nice addition. We take the floor jack with us in the FEL. Can use it under the top part of the lift roller assembly to raise the roller if a piece is stuck. MUCH easier to do than trying to use a long crowbar, which takes both of us. With floor jack, only takes one of us. On the Woodmaxx, all one has to do is pull down on the lever they provide. Not sure you can fold the chute back on the Woodmaxx due to this though.

I have been burned once - buying sight unseen. SO..... I bought Wallenstein from my local Kubota dealer. I had a BX42S when I had my Ford 1700. Now I have the BX62S with my Kubota M6040.

Never had a moments problem. I never expected to either........

I thin my pine stands every spring. 900 to 1100 small( 1" to 6" on the butt) Ponderosa pines. The Wally chips them like they are Twinkies.
