Wood pellet prices

Did some checking today on wood pellet prices $165-$177 per ton(50 bags per skid)I guess I will buy now verses late summer or early fall.From what I am being told buy now because fuel surcharges will make the price go up $20 per skid,just a heads up for you folks who burn wood pellets.coobie

You also want to look at the date tag when that pallet was packed. Your good pellet price may be on stock that has been setting out absorbing moisture for the past year or two behind the store...

I have been buyng from our local feed mill for sometime,this shipment of pellets has just arrived,coobie.

Sounds like pellets will be taking a hit not only from the fuel increases but the raw product ,sawdust is not being generated in the amounts that it was . Guess people are buying gas and food first ,furniture second,go figure.

Oil/fuel prices being what they currently are there may well be a 'run' on pellet stoves and pellets this fall as there was in 2005.

Good Evenin Coobie,
My neighbor went and bought a pellet stove in upstate Ny, I believe somewhere in the Glens Falls area, and he was told that by buying his stove their his pellet price will never go over $199 per ton.

My feelings are that I will burn wood until I cant do it anymore !

The wood is free and its basically my time and I look at it as an excersize form !

[/QUOTE I think that $199 per ton locked in is super deal.I used to burn wood but getting a little older now and like the pellets and corn that I burn,the wife likes it better also.LOL.coobie

That is an awesome price. When we sold our last ton which was about a month ago we were selling them for $239 ton. Are last trailer load cost us more than that to get it. I would buy a couple trailer loads and sell them to in your local swap sheet make some money on it. Also what brand are they. We usually sell Barefoot which we find it to be one of the best.

I haven't called for any yet for this season will be in a couple weeks after the fertilizer business slows down a bit more. We also buy bulk coal and bag it ourselves to sell, make more money on coal that wood pellets.

The pellets I am buying are called pro-pellet,the are a premium pellet.I have burned them for the last 2 years with no problems.If I had a place to store 10-20 ton I would buy all that I could,darn I should have built a bigger barn.LOL.coobie

a used water tight 40' shipping container can be had for about $3K

stack them 2 pallets high, 2 wide, 10 deep.

Howdy Folks, I need to find out where I can get pellets for less than $200 a ton.... Pellets are locally $229 A TON ON SALE...usually around $269...

We also use a wood stove in the basement which is good for some of the first floor and the pellet stove takes care of the rest of that floor and heats the upstair hallway fairly well leaving the bedrooms pretty cool for sleeping

We also get plenty of exercise gathering wood, splitting & stacking

In my neck of the woods, Nova Scotia Canada, they go for $230 - 250. per ton, seem to go up every year.

Last year was our first year with a pellet stove, a Harman XXV, and we tried pellets from several different manufacturers (Dry Creek, Insta-Heat, New England, etc.). Paid from $225 to $245 a ton and they all performed about the same.

This year we just bought our coming winter's supply of 4 tons at $199 a ton (Insta-Heat).

Roughly $800 for a winter's supply?? Is this for whole house heating? We are going to do something before next winter to get off the oil prices and so far have only thought about wood boilers...but I could live with $800/yr!

We used 4 tons of pellets and nearly a tank of oil last year. The pellet stove heats the main part of our house and the oil furnace does the cellar (pipes) and extremities. I'm considering a wood or pellet add-on for our furnace to eliminate oil use altogether. My wife and I are fortunate enough to be able to absorb the price increase, but I have a bit of an independent streak in me and I do not want to be held captive by such a volatile commodity.

I personally don't have a pellet stove, but do sell the pellets. Most people come in and for an average size house burn 3 - 5 ton a year. I know my boss burns pellets and he goes through 4 ton.

I would like to put in a rice coal stove. You go through roughly the same amount as pellets and the cost is the same. The major benefit is that you get more heat from the coal as the wood pellets. Also if you get the right stove you don't have to shut it down every so often to clean it. You have a shaker pan in the bottom to remove the ashes. I know harman and alaskan coal stoves are some of the bests. Rice coal aslo is just as clean as wood pellets.

We do the same, though we used 2 tons & burned more oil.

I'm looking at alternatives, though I'm still looking, not buying. I will be adding R11 insulation over the existing attic insulation this year and an insulated cover over the pull down stairway. We can also absorb the cost of increasing oil prices, but we don't have to like it! We don't have alot extra, and that money could go into home improvement. The house needs it.
