Won\'t Start

I have a 5105 4wd that won't turn over. If you short across the soliniod it will spin and start up. I can't find any info about a saftey switch.
Ideas please?

On my JD 950 I have to have EVERTHING disengaged, ie. Transmissin, High & low range must be in neutral and my PTO has to be disengaged and of course the clutch must be pushed in. I have no knowledge of the 5105 series so I don't know there starting procedure, but it does kind of sound like a safety switch or maybe more than one, that isn't registering properly.

I presume that the startup in the 5000 series is all the same and that you have the transmission in the park position ... if not it will not start ...

On my old JD 750, I find that I have to reach down and pull up a bit on the PTO shifter to get it to start. I really should get off my duff and adjust that safety switch. Also, I occasionally have to twiddle the gearshift lever to get the neutral safety switch to make contact.

What I'm saying it, there's about 6 interlocks on the new tractors, most likely one of them isn't connecting.

I don't know if you might have a similar problem, but I had some rodents actually eat through some wires up under the platform (mine is a 5520 isolated open station), and the darn critters must have somehow gotten ahold of one of the safety interlock wires (I suppose), because the symptoms were exactly as you state. I let the dealership handle this one, since to even see the wires, you had to take the whole operators station off/w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif. That was about 6 months ago, and now my wallet and my tractor are much happier as my tractor now lives indoors. Those interlocks are a great idea, but they really seem to be one of the most problematic systems on all of our tractors. Good luck with your problem.
