Winterizing diesel

Full winter blend is late getting here in southern Maine because of supply problem. Fuel we have now is good for -11 to -20. Full winter blend (-40) might be here next week and until then my supplier is doing a blend of 2 to 1 diesel and kerosene for both on road and off road. With winter blend I generally don't put any additive in my Powerstroke and I won't in my tractor.

What is diesel selling for there? With that type of blend I bet it has got to be about $3.25 or more a gallon. I just got my tanks filled at 2.57/gallon.

I'm selling it for 2.99 / 2.69 at the moment. We'll see what the price is when they ship the actual blend from Canada. generally jumps 10-20 cents then.

Power Services has a line of quality Diesel supplements, one specifically for anti-gelling. I keep them in my tanks and equipment and fuel problems are just not an issue. "Snake Oils" work for me.

Shoot - being a girl from the south, I never even realized there was such as thing as winter fuel. Found out real quick like when I went to upstate NY to pet sit for a friend in feburary a few years back. Just my luck they had the worst blizzard they had experienced in the last 30 years. I went out to move my F250 Super Duty for the snowplow guy and found out what "gelling" is. I had filled my tank at a station below the Mason Dixon and had no clue you were supposed to use a treatment. My truck was very unhappy with me. I had to promise I would never do that to it again

I was advised by a local mechanic that seems to know his stuff to use this stuff. Use double the recommended dosage, it won't hurt anything. This comes from Maine with winters at -25.

I致e had my 3540 for 4 years now and it works all winter long with no issues and no supplements. I have some 911 just in case. Upstate NY where it gets below zero every winter.

And your fuel comes treated or blended.

Just use #1 winter diesel instead of using sorcery , potions and elixirs in an attempt to reduce fuel filter waxing with the #2 summer diesel .

I use #1 diesel all year round and still add about 1-2oz of PS winter anti-gel to the fuel., but only in winter. When it becomes a time (when I retire) that I use the tractor in summertime too, then I will add 1-2oz of automatic transmission oil to the fuel.
Keep in mind that I do NOT have a tier 4 motor. NO DEF, NO catalytic converter, NONE of the emissions crap to deal with.
