Will this be strong enough?

Here's Reese's formula: (A + B) - C = Clearance
A= Distance from center of fifth wheel hitch jaw to truck cab
B= Length of Sidewinder arm (16K = 22")
C= Width of trailer divided by 2 (to get half)

So - I have 36 inches from center of jaws to front of bed. Sidewinder arm is 22 inches. Trailer is 96 inches wide.
36+22=58. 58-48= 10 inches clearance.

I have yet to hear from Etrailer. But I did get in touch with Reese. Where Etrailer has a guy who says his Reese contact said it's OK to use the ST400 Sidewinder with a Leland 7900, the person I spoke to at Reese said it's not recommended due to potential frame damage on the trailer. They did take down my contact information and said that they'd have their engineering department check it out when they're in tomorrow and get back to me.
Kind of unofficially said that I may be OK because the tag on the trailer pretty much says that I'm under 12k loaded. But that it's not on Reese if I tried it. I don't blame them. Decisions, decisions.

I may give it a try. Gross trailer weight is 11400 and this is a 16k Sidewinder. I'll give it another day to see if Etrailer gets back to me.
I've got a friend who's a good welder, but I don't know where we'd begin to peel off the skin to see what's what in the pinbox area.

Oh yes, my factory pin box came with 6 bolts in it and the Sidewinder came with only 4. I reused 2 of my old ones, just to be sure.

Weird, takes me right to a Sidewinder sale spot on Ebay. The seller's name is, got-chrome. Look that name up on ebay and you should be able to search his product line.

Or find the right reese number for your trailer and search that in ebay, ie, "reese 61410".

Make sure when you get a price that is radically different, that it includes the pin box AND turret, and mounting hardware. Some sites SHOW a cpmplete unit but when you read the fine print it is not. My Lippert 1716 is 12.5" wide and the Reese is 12" wide. The have to include spacers designed for my pin box with it. That probably adds a little to my cost. If your trailers pin box is 12" wide you won't need them.

According to Etrailer's description, it comes with a universal spacer or wedge that works for my Leland. As you say, others are optional.
