Will a spool valve with "float" function as a single acting cylinder valve?

The Fordson has only single acting hydraulics, and so I have a couple of "jacks" that would be handy to use with the two other tractors. Both of those have valves with float function.

It would seem.... that in the float position fluid from any port would be directed back to tank. But I can see problems with that thinking.

Use pressure to raise and float to lower. No problem.
