Wish I would of had a camera with me, when I got back home from the barn there was a flock of about 30 turkeys at the steps to the porch, as they moved over the back lawn a "tom" decided to show the hens his full plumage. :D:D

Turkeys are fun to watch. We have around 40 of them that hang on our property. This pic was from a couple weeks ago as they crossed our pond behind the house.

Gosh I love to see turkeys in the wild. Who was it who wanted it to be the national bird for the U.S. - was it Alexander Graham Bell or George Washington?

Turkeys were pretty much hunted to extinction around here where I live but they have been re-introduced and are doing great (so great the farmers are complaining about lost crops). We don't have any here this year but some years there are huge "herds" and strutting Toms that looks so amazing.

Nice to see the pics. Got to get me an IR cam.

Thanks for posting.

Had a great experience a few summers ago. I was taking the grandchildren for a tractor ride in the old trailer and was going up one hedgerow when I saw a bunch of hens with some chicks. I got the kids out of the trailer and placed them quiety in the hedgerow ahead of the troop of turkeys.

They were good at staying quiet and the flock walked to with 5 or 6 feet of each of the kids. They still talk about that afternoon.

We have a small flock in our yard and the Alpha tom has become agressive towards the human females (and weaker males) in our yard.
Does anyone have any advice? I want the others humans to be able to assert their dominance without resorting to physicaly attacking the Tom. I don't think that would work anyway.
