Sunday afternoon, while puttering in my shop, I noticed my bride running toward our livestock while chambering several rounds into her 12ga. The way she was waving that shotgun around I was sure my truck and tractor were in mortal peril, but she reached the end of the garage, dropped to one knee while taking aim at something in the direction of the chicken coop, and let loose her first blast. It knocked her right on her can! /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif
Then she got up, charging forward while pumping another round and firing as fast as she could. It was like Linda Hamilton in that scene in Terminator II! /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif
By the time I caught up with her she had run out of ammunition and a very dead red fox, with a banty hen in its mouth, lay in front of her.
We normally get extra birds to feed the occasional hawk or coyote, but the foxes are harder to deal with. They kill every bird they see, leaving bodies all over the place. Last year, in a five minute period, we lost nearly three dozen hens. The sheer waste of it all is depressing. But this fox's hunting days are over.
And to think when we first met she'd never handled a firearm! /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif
