What was your technique for pulling these? I have tons of them and it's one reason I bought the tractor...now jus trying to figure the best way to do it.

I have looked at these and am wondering if the FEL one works good. I have also heard of a guy using the Quick Spade combo to pop them out. Since they are both 200-300 I was hoping to get some feedback. I think I will start a thread to see if anyone has thoughts between the two. Thanks for the reply shortgame.

Mine was the $59.95 one in the Northern Tool Cat (up to 3 inch trunk). Me and one helper pulled hundreds of small red alder trees in a couple hours. I made one modification to it. I brazed two 8 inch handles onto it at right angles to the middle of the first scissor links. Instead of having to pull the jaws open against the spring to clamp onto the trunk (not so easy), you simply press the handles together and the jaws open wide. I used a center bucket hook and we went through 'em like a violated ape. I beat the dirt off the roots when they dried and fed 'em to the chipper. From problems to mulch in a few easy steps.

I wrap two turns of chain with a slip hook around them and use either the FEL or pull bar to rip them out of ground.

When I tried that with our red alder, the chain just slid up the trunks and removed all the bark and branches. Then is was a pain to get the wad of bark and twigs out of the tightly crammed full choker. Your mileage may vary.

I had similar issue with small trees. In such a case I wrap the chain several times around and it will grab. I have two different sizes of chains. One for small trees and the other for the bigger.

Well, just saying that the Brush Grubber is way easy. No messing with chains. If I had it to do over again, I'd probably get the $75 one.
I looked in the catalog again and saw the one that clamps to the bucket blade. I see how it would work, but it looked like tricky maneuvering would be required. Good if you aren't clearing a large thicket with lots of trees. At any rate, it's so neat to pull them up and leave clear ground that is all but tilled up already.

Well I have put some hard hours on the new tractor. First was hoggin, then mowed dam and pulled some impressive trees, grated drive, then moved 3, 80-100 year old oaks that we fell and cut into 6' sections. He got his first bruises last week, limb went through the grill material..nothing but cosmetics and I have developed a leak I have to trace down. I put 26 hours in 4 days and not one was easy Very impressed with how much work I can get done. THinking I may go for some skid plates...I can really see the value in those.
