Why SUDT???

Where does Kubota require SUDT and not UDT?

I don't work in the shop, so I maybe wrong in this, but I think many of the current models are having their service schedules updated where you only change the HST half as often, but to do that they mandate SUDT. I know the L40's are like this. UDT won't break them, but then you should be changing the oil twice as often. Part of this is happening to address customers sticker shock at the cost of a complete 50-hour service. The first oil change is at 400 hours. (LOWERING the total $$$$ in the long run for those who think there is a conspiracy going on)

Maybe you are right if it is a recent change. My M5040 and RTV-900, both bought last year, have 50 hour changes but say either UDT or SUDT. My 2007 Kubota excavator recommends standard hydraulic oils (Shell, Mobile, etc.) and doesn't mention Kubota hydraulic oils, hmmmmm.

My ten year old M4700 (traded on the M5040) specified SUDT with a 50 hour first change, then a 600 hour interval. Of course neither the 4700 nor 5040 are hydrostatic transmissions.

Nothing still makes sense, LOL.

I know you can have an oil analysis done on motor oils, surely the same can be done for hydro oils. Personally I think you would be safe running another oil as long as that oil says it is compatible.

I bought my kub because I like their product, therefore I will use their products to keep it maintained, same goes for the hog in the garage. If you spend your hard earned money on a product you like, why not spend for the product they sell to maintain it?

I guess it depends on how you look at.

It is a matter of preference in some cases. If you wish to support a manufacture 100% that isn't a problem. However, I personally feel that in most cases the manufacture isn't going to stand behind me 100% if there is a problem. Most cases they do when it is a cheap fix, but when it gets expensive, they tend to blame the user.

But for me, why pay twice as much (in some cases) for something when you can go elsewhere and get it cheaper, and in some cases get a better product?

I know most people do not buy dealer parts unless they have to because they know they cost more at the dealer. I know not everything is apples and apples when it comes to parts from the dealer and third party companies, but usually it is pretty close.

I'm sure most of us do not go buy a GM oil filter when we change our oil in our cars.

Or worse for some of the people that are on this site, have more than one piece of equipment, so now they have oil 1, and oil 2, and oil 3 for their tractors because the 3 diferent manufactures say to use their oil. So now they have to worry about getting them mixed up, keeping it in stock, etc.

I will run whatever is compatable/conveinent at the time I need it.

Are you paying for product quality, or just an advertising image and a wild hope that we are spending our money wisely?

I use Mobile 1 oil in my gas engines, I truly believe it is better quality than a Ford or GM sold oil.

It seems to me that when in comes to engine oils, quality is a lot easier to recognize than with hydraulic oils. I really don't know if UDT or SUDT is as good as or better than some other premium hydraulic oil. Do we really think Kubota has some magic in their hydraulic oil?

I have a 4330, and a shop manual ...which clearly states UDT or SUDT ...so, what's the problem?

In fact, my Kubota dealer is a Case dealer and uses their fluids as I recall.

If I could get hold of it easily, I would use Chevron's SUDT equivalent, because it is not clear, so I could see it more easily on the dipstick.

For engine oil, I don't actually know what the dealer uses in my Kubota, but in my F350, my MB 300D, my Jetta TDI, my Isuzu I-mark, my diesel Suburban and my Jeep Grand Cherokee with the MB diesel, I use diesel-spec'd synthetics ...low ash ...and, the Jeep's oil change interval for normal service is up to 12,500 mi., which is nice.

Where does Kubota require SUDT and not UDT? I obviously don't know all the various Kubota units, but all of my manuals, under the "lubricants" section say "SUDT or UDT".

Yes, under the individual service section (e.g. 300 hour service), it says SUDT but also says "see the lubricants section" where it specifies either.

I noticed the exact same thing myself with my 2620. Any answers wise ones?

Amalie All Trac 245 claims (on pdf on website) specifically to match SUDT specs. I use it because SUDT is hard to get for me - at $80 a bucket (down from $88) the Amalie isn't all that much cheaper than SUDT.
