why so many jeeps now on road?

I had one CJ 7 years ago. Never again. Handle terrible on the Interstate

This is exactly what the Jeep was NOT designed to do. The CJs were off road vehicles. Expections for them to handle the same as a car on the highway was their downfall.

I’m still on my first Jeep, a 1954 CJ3B. My grand-dad bought it from the original owner in the early 70’s. It ticks me off to see the Willys name on these recent incarnations. You can see it hiding in the back of the shop. Also a reprint of the service chart. 30+ grease zerks.

We still have books from some of those old Jeeps, as well as for my father's old OC-3 and JD40 crawler tractors.

I miss my Jeep CJ7 too. Very few parts were original as it had a fiberglass body and a 300 HP chivy 350.

Nice!

I missed a really good deal on an '89 CJ a few years ago... straight 6, manual tranny, 33" tires decent soft top and the body was excellent. I popped the hood though and the engine compartment was covered with oil. "Pretty bad blowby", I thought." I guess I'll pass".
After it sold I found out there was nothing wring with the engine, it was the first time I'd ever seen fluid film.

Mine was a '55 Willy's Wagon. Candy apple red, chrome wheels, varnished oak trim interior, leather upholstery, small block 'vette, and overdrive. Pulled a horse trailer many miles. Now I see it at car shows sometimes....Originally built by a HS shop class as a class project. I bought it from them.

They used to build one of something classic every year as part of their shop education and then would sell it at the end of the spring semester.

I like to re-read this 1992 article every few years. The only thing I see from the early Jeeps to today’s is the trademarked seven slot grill. I suppose having a heater is nice though. But I digress….
