Its a little more complicated than that. Many companies are forced to buy new trucks for write offs and accountants and liability/safety reasons.
Small guys like me can do what they want mostly.

One of the reasons I like Ram is they use an engine and transmission (Cummins & Aisin) produced by a company that goes under if they build junk.

If I were looking at single rear wheel lighter trucks, GM would have more appeal with the Allison transmission than the Ram.
