I observe the “news” media recently portraying evangelicals in a negative way because of recent voting patterns. Some don’t like those voting patterns and are trying to destroy them and make it more difficult for them to worship.
Mask mandates and social distancing should be observed in all group settings.
Church is no exception.

Let's say your church, parish, place of worship, etc., has 500 members and you have 2 Sunday services.

The county says you can't have more than 100 people in a gathering.

Well, expand to 5 services and everyone can attend.

It takes some logistics by the church administrators to set up who's gonna attend which service time, but it can be done.

Have drive-up services and everyone can attend.
(that's what one of my sibling's church did in Tucson, works great).

People just don't want to be inconvenienced or told what to do. Unfortunately, some folks have to be told what to do, because they won't if it inconveniences them.

Our parish asked people to spread out and attend different services to limit the crowds. It works. This really is a non-issue for reasonable people.

If a man did his time for his crime, why should he not be allowed to carry a firearm when he is a free man?
Once probation ends, if he's been a good citizen, depending on the crime, he might be able to purchase a firearm.

How about we expand that to child molesters and let them live near schools after they get off probation? NOooo.. Lifetime sex offender. Lifetime felon.

Murderer? Lifetime ban? Depends on the type of murder, I suppose. Accidental, intentional, that kind of thing.

Thief? Depends if a firearm was used in the theft?
Arsonist?
Square dance calling in a roundhouse? You get the idea.

All kinds of different felonies to consider. I suppose if it was a non-violent felony, and all time was served and probation completed, then it might be OK.

Probably cannot be a one-size fits all.

Many people didn't want the new federal law of background checks when it was implemented back in '94. Yet it's prevented over 3 million sales to people that were legally prohibited from possessing a gun. About a third of those 3 million were convicted felons. I'd like to see everyone that attempts to purchase illegally be prosecuted. That would be a great start. It doesn't happen enough, if at all.

I'd like to see universal background checks on all firearm sales, both private and public. If I'm selling a gun to someone, I want 2 things:
1. documentation that shows the person is legally permitted to own a firearm.
2. documentation that I no longer own that firearm and they do.

A majority of people in the U.S. support universal background checks for all firearms sales. It's about time that gets implemented.

Yes, someone's gonna point out that criminals won't follow the rules. No kidding.

However, criminals with records or people with restrictions, won't be able to buy guns at gun shows or from private sales where the owner does the due diligence and follows the law. That will at least reduce the number of guns sold directly to people that are prohibited from possessing them, and, it creates a record for that firearm ownership to be traced. If they trace it back to me as the last legal owner, and I don't have documentation of who I sold it to, and I didn't report it stolen in a timely manner, then I'm gonna have to pay the price. It seems like the responsible thing to do, and it's about time to do it. Gun ownership requires great responsibility. So should selling that gun when the time comes. I'm pro-2nd amendment. I've owned guns since I was 14. I don't want to lose that right and I don't want anyone else to lose that right. If something isn't done soon, we're all gonna lose that right. Let's start with background checks.
The problem with the universal background check is the fact that it cannot work without total universal gun registration. Given that many Americans don't trust the universal registration roles not to be used as universal confiscation lists when the "time is right" I don't think universal background is going to have an easy time of it. And just how many are going to list every firearm they own? All? Were some lost in that boating accident? How about "there was a fire"? or maybe just "I don't own that one any more".

Many Americans don't doubt for a moment that many politicians of a certain stripe want to confiscate all privately held firearms currently held. Remember "M rand Mrs America, turn them all in!" ? It was said by a prominent US senator you know. So why shouldn't we take them at their word? I do.

Tell me please where there is a flaw in my logic.

Our press secretary said this today about the shooting of a 16 year old girl about to plunge a long knife blade into another girl and was shot by police:

"Let me just say, since you gave me the opportunity, the killing of 16-year-old Ma'Khia Bryant by the Columbus police is tragic. She was a child," Psaki said. "We know that police violence disproportionately impacts Black and Latino people and communities and that Black women and girls like Black men and boys experience higher rates of police violence."

So I am wondering why that is?I wonder why Black men and boys (and I guess girls too in this case) experience higher rates of police violence. Maybe some of you folks on here that like to point out racism all the time would care to comment?

I can share my thoughts before you reply. I believe why black people encounter disproportionate levels of police action is because in general black people as a group are involved in a disproportional level of crime than their percentage numbers of the whole community would suggest. That is my thoughts, and if you want to call me racist, that is your prerogative. I don't think I am racist, but I realize some of you do.

In my opinion, it’s a lack of a father figure in the home...no discipline growing up.

Bingo

Pretty much every black kid I read about locally that ends up shot doesn't have the same last name as his mother or the deceased was raised by his grandmother.

Same reason why I crapped my pants when I ended up getting lost in Camden NJ at 0100 by taking the wrong bridge out of Philly. I don't scare that easy, but when I looked at my surroundings, I was crapping bricks. Came across a cherry top with what looked to be a man with no neck, he took one look at me and pointed which way to get out of dodge.

Swear to God, even at that time of the night, it looked like a war ravaged city.

The problem is that by that time he already has a kid or two of his own... who will grow up without a father figure.

And the cycle keeps churning...

This in the other days paper.

Fact is, even in little old Winston, the deaths are from black teens killing black teens.

There's been another background check system proposed that deals with all of these concerns. B.I.D.S, which stands for Blind Identification Database System. It allows for people to be screened, while preventing the ability to create a registry.
