Yeah someone prominent lied on a form 4473 and nothing happened. And then we need more stringent gun laws?
Why dont we just follow the existing gun laws before we make new ones?
Many people didn't want the new federal law of background checks when it was implemented back in '94. Yet it's prevented over 3 million sales to people that were legally prohibited from possessing a gun. About a third of those 3 million were convicted felons. I'd like to see everyone that attempts to purchase illegally be prosecuted. That would be a great start. It doesn't happen enough, if at all.
I'd like to see universal background checks on all firearm sales, both private and public. If I'm selling a gun to someone, I want 2 things:
1. documentation that shows the person is legally permitted to own a firearm.
2. documentation that I no longer own that firearm and they do.
A majority of people in the U.S. support universal background checks for all firearms sales. It's about time that gets implemented.
Yes, someone's gonna point out that criminals won't follow the rules. No kidding.
However, criminals with records or people with restrictions, won't be able to buy guns at gun shows or from private sales where the owner does the due diligence and follows the law. That will at least reduce the number of guns sold directly to people that are prohibited from possessing them, and, it creates a record for that firearm ownership to be traced. If they trace it back to me as the last legal owner, and I don't have documentation of who I sold it to, and I didn't report it stolen in a timely manner, then I'm gonna have to pay the price. It seems like the responsible thing to do, and it's about time to do it. Gun ownership requires great responsibility. So should selling that gun when the time comes. I'm pro-2nd amendment. I've owned guns since I was 14. I don't want to lose that right and I don't want anyone else to lose that right. If something isn't done soon, we're all gonna lose that right. Let's start with background checks.
