I can't seem to find who makes them. I found, quite by accident, that Donaldson makes the air filter on my JD 5425 tractor. I'm curious as to who makes the oil and hydraulic filters.

I am not sure who does the filters but I would bet that CITGO does the oil. They are (or at least were recently) one of the worlds largest provider of oils and addatives (sp?) and supply most of the aftermarket labels as well as some of the "Name" brand companies that simply don't want to get involved in that process. They also provide a huge share of the heating oil market.

When I got my first set of filters, I ordered them using the JD numbers but many came in as other manufactures, (ex. - air filters were Donaldson)

The only ones I recall that were packaged as JD were the transmission strainer and fuel pre filter/strainer.

I emailed them a few years ago about this and was told that they use multiple different companies depending on location. They said in my area it is made by Chevron. Some of the others are Imperial Oil, Torco International, Esso Canada Ltd and others. From the looks of it they probably use the lowest bidder.

LOL! I wonder who makes their magic "Plus 50" oil then?? I was more interested in who made their oil and hydraulic filters, but it's interesting who makes their oil. I never figured that JD had their own refinery.

My advice and I've tried to tell people this for awhile, is to go with a good synthetic after break in.

If you're like me you paid a good amount for your machine. Use the best oil you can get.

I remember several years ago when I was touting synthetic and a good friend bought a new MB SUV. He said MB recommends using plain dino oil and not synthetic.
Guess what? MB is telling him now to use synthetic and that's what they use for their oil changes, in fact MB comes out of the factory with Mobil 1, 0W-40 in their cars and trucks.

And don't overlook the importance of good tranny/hydro fluid. Hydro takes a beating. Seals will last longer along with the rest of you hydro system.

Just go to TSC and buy the Traveller brand hydro oil, conventional motor oil and filters...they're the best...If you don't have TSC nearby try the SuperTech brand oils and filters at Wal-Mart...just as good. Synthetics are just today's snakeoils....bahhh humbug

MB- from the factory- Mobil 1
Corvette- from the factory Mobil 1
Porsche- from the factory Mobil 1
Aston Martin- from the factory Mobil 1
Etc, etc.

I’m sure all those automotive engineers and designers are wrong, all the side by side tests fake, all the proven race results inconclusive, all the extended mileage oil analysis manipulated, all the better mpgs figures skewed and you’re right it's just snake oil.

Yep, it's all just snake oil bud. Looks like you fell for it...:)

Synthetic oil has a proven record. The tests, the races and the mechanics. So yes I’m making the same mistake as Porsche, GM and Merc. Call us all fools.

Actually I think the one who “fell for it” is the one who went out and bought a bad tractor then went out, bought the same tractor again and got another bad one. You wouldn’t know anyone who “fell” over that stone twice would you, bud?
