What does PTO HP have to do with picking up a round bale?

Interesting how "compact" tractors have evolved. They began as a smaller version of a farm utility tractor with reduced dimensions, lighter weight and smaller engines for non-agricultural uses. That's still what most buyers want, but there is also some demand for more power, capacity and size in a compact platform even though there are many farm utility models available like that. The issue seems to be HST, for ease of operation, which the manufacturers seem reluctant to put in a true utility tractor platform. I expect an HST option in a 75-90 hp utiliity model would grab some attention.

International Harvester offered a line hydrostatic tractors, late 70's like the hydro 70, neighbor farmer has 3, uses them for haying every summer. They just were not that popular, would overheat using ground engagement implements.

Untill recently, NH offered a TV 140 and later TV 145. 145 hp hydro, true 4 wheel drive, articulating steer, reversible driver position.

Recently discontinued, no reason provided.

hmmm I wonder why they stopped...........I noticed there are some CVTs now in tractors which are more $$$ tho not sure on the HPs on those but his budget is around 25 to 30K so looking like something used in a deere or Kubota or maybe drop a couple hp and go down to a kioti or RK

I have an MX, it is a light tractor. Would NOT recommend for any large bales, round or square. And actually the 5100 has more lift capacity than newer 5800. To accommodate the additional emissions equipment, the front enginge compartment was extended forward. The loader arms were lengthened by necessity. This reduced lift capacity.

yea he doesn't do hay but his Father in law does and lives a ways away - so they haul it out - so he was wanting to just be able to move/row the bales to the edges of the field or load it on the trailer as needed when his FIL comes to get a load in the winter. they are 5x6 bales and its mixed grass/lespedeza/clover/ so pretty hefty bales for the most part - he may be borrowing the neighbors to load if that is the case ha........or keep the old 560 with the F11 farm hand loader on it -

he has a buyer for the 560 - I guess the 1963s are harder to find and this guys wanting it but doesn't want the F11 so.......

I am about ready to turn loose of my 560 as well with all my changes in rigs around here and trying to recoup some $$$ - so hard to find certain things in these tractors to be all around, its hard to compensate for weight and balance of these older tractors - their biggest drawback is mobility and moving one.........these smaller tractors are much easier to haul.
