We have wireless (WiFi) service through a local provider. The same as the wireless router in your house, only expanded over many miles with much stronger equipment. It is the only thing available other than cellular and satellite-based services here.

I'm extremely happy with 12Mb download and 8Mb upload speeds.

We have such a service locally but we are just outside of their coverage area. I have thought about trying to get them to install a tower on our land which would expand their customer base in exchange for free service. But I don't know if I want them to have access to our land to service the tower.....

In exchange for extra fast service, I let our ISP put a tower on my shed (I still pay, but I get top priority in outages). They use it to bounce the signal for several of my neighbors. Service has been so good, I haven't seen them in probably 6-8 months. If that is an option for you, I would definitely recommend it. I work from home as a software consultant, so I NEED fast, reliable internet service.

We've got "regular" Comcast cable internet here, it was always around $70-75 total for internet only. Now we've got some TV added in. Never been thrilled with the internet speed...but I'm not real patient.

I did just order a new "DOCSIS 3.0" :confused2: modem that Comcast has been "reminding" me to do, so hopefully that will help. As a bonus, I (hopefully) won't be paying hundreds of "extra" dollars to rent the dammmmmn thing, like I kept doing after I bought the last modem (and kept getting charged for renting...my fault didn't check the bill closely...for forever. )

We have something like that here but I am out of the coverage area.

We've got "regular" Comcast cable internet here, it was always around $70-75 total for internet only. Now we've got some TV added in. Never been thrilled with the internet speed...but I'm not real patient.

I think my phone bill with DSL as a package is around $50. I don't think I can find anything with 3mb download and unlimited acess for $50.

Comcast enjoys being the only "landline" provider for my area, Roger...so their prices reflect that.

We have both land line and DSL (10mbps) Internet from CenturyLink (used to be CenturyTel). I'm satisfied with them.

Well, as I said yesterday, CenturyLink is providing Internet and telephone service, but for TV, we're using DirecTV, but this month DirecTV once again sneaked in a big price increase, so next week we're going to give Charter Communications a try with their package deal; TV, Internet, & telephone. It'll save us about $60 a month the first year and then $40 a month after that, plus get a lot more TV channels and a DVR.

Whether we'll like it and stay with Charter remains to be seen.

I have Frontier DSL [ $19.99/mo ], get about 2.8 mbps down/.66 up.... AND I AM A HAPPY CAMPER...!!! I am out in the boonies/had dial up for years [ about 4.5 Kbaud down, K as is Kilo] ... and life could not be better... No Comcast within a couple miles of me, and the cell/sat service would be too much more buckazoids...... I might not be zooming at 30mbps or more like some, but I like it out here in the woods.... I have DishNet Family Pack for TV, the cheepo package they do not promote, which comes in at about $30 a month encluding the $5 for the local channels... [ but I buy expensive stuff to put in the barn and dig stumps ]

Tough to get much more than 10Mbs via satellite. DishNetwork will give you 5Mbs for $39 and 10Mbs for $49. You "might" save a few bucks if you bundle with their TV. Worst limitation on satellite data service is the monthly limit - so you need to be sure you have some idea of how much data you download in a month. You can get that info from your current provider. Of course, with better performance, you can expect that you will soon exceed your old constraints.

We have a bvu optinet ( a local provider) and we have 50 MBps upload and 20 Mbps download with cable tv and home phone for $99 a month. Little bit spoiled

We have a small regional carrier that gets Time Warner in bulk and re-sends it to subscribers in a five mile radius. The antenna, or whatever it's called is on top of a neighbors grain bins and loading system--honest. On our flat ground it's the tallest thing around. It works but seems to get hit by lightning a lot.
